*Nightmare's POV*

I had an off feeling about today, but I merely shrugged it off and got into ready for the day. I slipped on my purple hoodie, it was a little bigger than I remembered. But I didn't mind, I liked big hoodies.

I then put my homework into my bag, brushed my hair, and proceeded to grab a bagel and put it into the toaster. I then walked out of the kitchen and bumped into Dream, they seemed shocked that I was wearing anything besides black.

"Oh my god, you're finally not wearing black." Dream hugged me. "I'm so proud of you!"

"Yeah, yeah. Please let go of me." I sighed.

As soon as I said that the toaster popped up, and I had managed to wriggle out of Dream's death hug. I walked over, grabbed the bagel, and took a bite out of it. I didn't really bother adding butter or jelly, in my eyes. Food is food.

I walked out of the kitchen and unplugged my phone.

"C'mon, mom's in the car." Dream chirped, rushing out the door. I sighed before taking both my phone and his and walking out the door.

I entered the car and sat in the front seat, I didn't bother initiating conversation until Dream sighed.

"Crap, I think I left my phone at home."

"Don't worry bro, I got it." I held their phone out to them, and they took it.

"Thanks."

"No problem."

I looked out the window, barely able to make out outlines of buildings and people as they rushed by. Eventually we made it to hell.

"Have a good day." Joku said.

"You too, mom." I sighed before shutting the car door, and then entered.

The first two classes passed by quickly, the uneasy feeling not disappearing or lessening. But during the passing period, something I never expected happened.

I heard gunshots from nearby and horrified screams, I couldn't even register what was taking place.

I knew that by now most classroom doors would be locked and that attempting to enter the room could not only kill me, but also my classmates. I needed to find a hiding place, just to wait until this blows over. I ran to the back of the school nearest to the exit, I should call the police before...

I heard a gunshot and then... Dream... No, no, no... Please, no!

I ran in the direction I last heard them, tears threatening to fall. I heard a couple gunshots behind me, and I didn't bother looking back. I tried to block out everything that was keeping me from finding Dream.

I knew that if I got caught now it would all be over, Dream would die, and Cross would most likely get shot searching for me. I couldn't let the two people I care about in this school die, I am determined to save them.

What if I end up being too late?

What if I die, and leave Dream all alone?

What if they forget about me when I die?

I pushed the dark thoughts to the back of my head, I had to keep moving. There wasn't any time for a dilemma. I heard footsteps behind me, causing me to freeze up. I had to hide for now. I looked around for a closet, a narrow opening, or at least a trash can. By now the footsteps were closer, and I had to accept that I was going to die...

"Oh my god, Nightmare. I was looking everywhere for you." Someone sighed relieved that I was alive.

I turned around and saw that it was Cross, they ran up to me and hugged me. I smiled and hugged back. I enjoyed this moment before I heard a gunshot and panicked.

"Shh, sh." Cross comforted me, obviously knowing that I was worried about Dream. "They're fine, I saw them enter a classroom with Ink and Blue."

I felt myself relax, I knew that the police were on their way. All of this will soon be over, and I can go back to everyday life.

I heard a gun click and I froze up, Cross shoved me down when the gun fired, causing me to avoid the bullet. As for Cross, they weren't as lucky. They grunted in pain, and sank to their knees. I crawled over to them, tears started falling.

"C-Cross..." I stuttered, their blood was already staining the area around the wound. I knew I couldn't do anything to help them, their injury was fatal. I knew that they would die if they didn't get help soon. I picked them up, stumbling due to the weight. But I managed to get him to the storage room in the gymnasium.

"N-Nightmare, I don't think I can hold on."

"D-Don't say that, C-C'mon. You'll be fine. D-Don't die on me." I could tell him how I truly felt about him now, I hope this gives him some more willpower to live. "I need you here with me."

"Y-You have other people who care about you, you'll survive without me."

"You don't understand, I love you. You're the only reason I haven't killed myself, without you I wouldn't have lived to see today. Please, don't leave me here." I started sobbing, and muffled my cries with my hand.

They reached up and brushed my hair out of my face, revealing both of my eyes. They stared into them with their black orbs, they brought me closer causing me to blush intensely. We got closer until the gap between us no more.

After what had seemed like 5 minutes, Cross broke the kiss.

"I love you too..." Cross said, their breath dying out and ceasing.

I could only sit there for a decent second before I heard police sirens blaring from outside of the school. I laughed grimly, they were too late. Cross was gone, all because they couldn't set down their doughnut boxes for one second.

(Well shit, that was darker than I expected. Soon the final chappies will be coming, they shall be really angsty while the ending will be like 'meh feels'... I'm sorry I haven't updated in 1000 years, I have really bad authors block. I hope you enjoyed having your heart stepped on.)
