~Chapter Eight~

I blushed, looking down at my hands. Quietly, I said, "you aren't supposed to do that."

"But what if I can't help myself?" He whispered.

I sighed, tilting my head to look up at him. "Ashton..."

"When I'm with you, I feel something, Julie. I feel alive." He took my hands in his large ones. "I like who I am when I'm with you."

I was speechless. I had literally only met Ashton today, and he was already confessing these things.

"Ashton," I started. "We, we met today."

"I know. I know that. But I've already developed feelings for you."

It was quiet for a minute. Then; "Julie, please say something."

I looked up at him again, but once I did, his lips were on mine. He kissed me slowly, yet deeply, with his hands on my cheeks.

I couldn't deny that there was something there, but I wanted to get to know Ashton before it turned into anything romantic or serious.

I pulled away after a minute and looked up at Ashton. His hazel eyes had a pleading look in them, and his lips were kiss bitten.

Finally, I spoke. "I, um, I didn't know you felt that way."

"That's all you're going to say?"

"For now, yeah," I said. I watched as he pursed his lips and nodded. Then he kissed my forehead softly and slid out of the booth.

My eyes widened when he walked away from me and out the door.

I hastily grabbed my bag and ran after him. It was raining outside, the drops coming down slanted. He was already halfway down the street when I got outside. "Ashton!" I shouted. "Ashton wait!"

He didn't look back though, he continued walking with his head down and shoulders slumped. I started to cry, because I thought I had just lost an amazing friend.

"Ashton!" I cried, my hair flopping in front of my face. I stopped in the middle of the road, and bent over to catch my breath.

Just then, a bright light shone on me, and as I turned to see where it was coming from, I was met face to face with a truck, coming right at me.

I screamed. I was paralyzed. I couldn't move. It was coming closer and closer, not showing any signs of slowing down.

Right as the truck was about to collide with my body, two arms wrapped around my frame knocked me to the ground on the side of the road. I cried out in pain as my head hit the curb, and the truck sped past me.

I felt dizzy. Maybe it was because of the stupid curb, maybe it was because of what had just happened, I don't know.

"Julie!" I could hear faintly. "Jules, look at me. Look at me."

I tried to look at them, but I was sleepy. I just wanted to sleep. I felt my head being jostled around and a faint, "oh God."

Then I heard talking, but only one voice, saying something about hurting and coming quickly.

"Julie, stay awake, please stay awake."

"'m tired," I mumbled, my eyes fluttering.

The person slapped my face lightly, multiple times. The rain was still soaking me through my clothes, and I shivered. "'m cold."

"I know, I know. The ambulance will be here soon."

I nodded, my eyes finally closing, as I heard them begging me to stay awake.
