"The night before this tragedy, I was talking to Angus about having dinner or something to talk about our business, politics, cricket, and other things. I'm usually the one doing the work for our business so I wanted to address that and hopefully make some changes to the way our company was being managed. We decided that the next day I could-could come over.
I was invited for-for dinner and was running a little later than I expected. Angus had left-uh- left work already and went home. I stayed for another hour and a half trying to wrap up the day. We own a clothing line. I came at um around 7:30 once when I left work. The train I took was also running late. The dinner was suppose to be at 7:00.
I politely tapped the door and waited for-for Miss Marlett to open it. That women deserves more than she's given but I won't say any more about that matter.
I was starving because I had to skip lunch to work through some issues the company was having and didn't want to ruin my appetite for the dinner. Angus would always have delightful dinners planned. Either that or the cook. I've never met his cook but it's probably good that I hadn't. His cook is probably as overworked as Miss Markett- " Mr. Keaye stopped rambling when he saw the officer staring at him, daring Mr. Keaye to keep trying to get off track. He helplessly glanced at the door that he had entered through as he tugged gently on his ear.
Mr. Keaye gulped in the loudest way possible then continued, his voice shaking,"I uh knocked on the door and Miss Marlett answered it after a bit. I assumed she was doing other things at the moment so I waited as patiently as I could. I really do pity the woman. She-she couldn't leave the Willameses because of Mr. Willames but she didn't get-get as much money as she should have. She's a cheerful old maid though. She is always trying to spread some spirit into us all even when her life becomes pretty miserable. I-I wonder what she'll do now that Mr. Willames is dead. She barely has enough to live on the street for a few days.
She uh welcomed me into the house gently and kindly, holding the door open for me as I walked in. She had her usual smile on and her voice was just as-as cheery as ever. I saw that the table was set and I smelled the delicious meat pie just waiting to be eaten."
"Did you see anything unordinary?" The police officer asked in an edgy way that can't be explained in the words. It almost showed extreme doubt that Mr. Keaye could possibly be the murderer but still had that annoyance it expressed for Mr. Meripat. It was unique and no words could describe how it sounded. It had its own edge to it, it's own sympathy, it's own doubt.
Mr. Keaye seemed to be thinking about room, what it looked like and how everyone acted not too long ago before his life was changed forever. No one would have even thought Angus Willames would get murdered in his sleep. And now, he was getting questioned to see if he was the one who killed him.
"No-no not that I can think of," Mr. Keaye replied with slight hesitation as he tugged at his bright red ear. He scratched the back of his neck and looked around the room.
"Go on than," The officer ordered, with a hint of disappointment in his gruff voice.
"Well, Emily seemed sad but I didn't bother asking why. She'd sometimes seem that way but usually was a happy girl. What- How-uh- is she doing, officer?" Mr. Keaye asked, with many breaths in between each statement.
"Dead. She was found next to her husband's body," the officer bluntly replied, not taking his eyes off the notepad and showing little emotion.
"Oh. Not good not good not good," Mr. Keaye quickly mumbled under his breath then continued as he tugged on his ear," Well, um I saw Angus in his usual chair under that lamp reading the politic section of the newspaper. He took off his eyeglasses, which he only wore for reading as he stood up and came over to me. We had a good discussion while we ate the meat pie and drank some beer. We were actually able to talk about how our business was going and what we were planning to do with it. It's becoming very profitable you know. Our sales have been going up with means we earn more money. I can't believe that only a few years ago we-we were getting started and..." Mr. Meripat noticed the look of disapproving look on the officer's face. He tugged at his scarlet ear as he gulped and took a deep breath.
