*Lucy's POV*
If you can't already tell, Juvia and I work together. Juvia is in charge of Placement and Design, meaning she picks how the layout of each issue will look like.
After arriving at work, I made my way to my cubical and began settling for the day. While logging into my computer, I was greeted by my neighboring co-worker, Levy.
Levy was about five feet tall, short blue hair, and incredibly smart. She was extremely timid, but friendly. She always wore a headband with cute floral-print dresses and her signature red-framed glasses. She was actually in a few of my classes in high school, but I never really became friends with her until I started working with her. Levy had her own column in the magazine as well, and we helped each other out sometimes.
"Good morning, Lucy!" Levy greeted from in front of me over the grey cubical wall, probably standing on something to see over. She had on an orange headband today.
"Good morning, Levy! You have an idea about next month's column story?" I greeted back.
"Yes, actually! I'm doing a story about that upcoming singer, Steel, and I actually got an interview with him!" Levy said excitedly as she pushed her glasses back up her nose.
My eyes lit up. "You got an interview with Steel?! Levy, that's amazing! I hope all goes well." I smiled. Levy smiled back before disappearing back into her side of the wall.
I actually had no idea what my column was going to be about. I was hoping to do something on the amount of stray dogs being discovered in the city lately, but Juvia said that may not catch everyone's eye.
"Maybe do a column about love and relationships?" Juvia had said when we had this conversation in the car on the way here.
"Juvia, you know I know absolutely nothing about relationships." I sighed as I leaned my head against the car window.
Juvia giggled. "Oh, come on, Lu! You had relationships all through high school! I'm sure you learned a few worthy lessons."
I gave her a 'are-you-serious?' look. "Yeah, right! Every guy I dated in high school turned out to be a jerk."
Juvia raised an eyebrow at me. "Oh, really? Even-"
"Don't say it-"
"Sting?" Juvia finished, smiling at me and wiggling her eyes brows. I rolled my eyes.
"Y-yes, even him. The point is, I can't do a column on relationships if I've never even been in love." I huffed, taking a sip of my coffee.
"Sure you can! You just need to find someone to write it about~" Juvia teased.
"Easy for you to say! You and Gray have been dating since Junior year!" I turned to my best friend, who had began to blush.
I sighed remembering the conversation as my computer wallpaper came into view after I logged in. A starry sky over a mountain.
I began typing, hoping to finish this month's story before the day was over. After about ten minutes, a voice cut through my thoughts.
"Good morning, Lucy!" called Mirajane Strauss, CEO of The Shooting Star. Mira had long, white hair, bright blue eyes, and a kind face. She used to be a model, so I've heard, but she gave it up to run this company along with her sister, Lisanna.
The Strauss family had owned The Shooting Star for as long as I can remember. It was passed down to the eldest sibling of every generation.
"Good morning, Mrs. Mira!" I called over my should as she walked by, heels clacking. I saw her enter the elevators, most likely heading back up to her office.
A few moments later, a heard another voice:
"Lucy!"
It was Meredy.
Meredy was another close friend of mine from grade school. She was Mira's assistant and in charge of checking up on the rest of the staff, as well as running errands and giving out important information on Mira's behalf. Her wavy, bright pink ponytail flowed down her back, her black heels clacked loudly as she made her way towards my working area.
"Meredy! Good morning!" I called as she stopped in front of my cubical breathing heavily. "Are you okay?"
"Y...yeah. I just...ran all the way...here." The pinkette panted between deep breathes. "Woah, it's a workout to get here in heels!"
I giggled. Meredy always had an over-excited personality, much like Juvia. In grade school, she was alway able to find out the latest gossip before anyone else. I always wondered how she did it, but she would just smirk and say "I have my sources."
"Anyway," she lower her voice as she fixed her dark grey blazer, "I have big news!"
"Big news?" I questioned, surprised.
Meredy's green eyes sparkled. She looked around to make sure no one was listening. Everyone was preoccupied by work, so she leaned in, beckoning me to come closer.
"Mrs. Mira and Miss Lisanna are talking about throwing a company ball!" Meredy whispered. My eyes went wide.
"A-are you serious?!" I whispered-yelled. Meredy quickly covered my mouth and put her finger over to mouth, signaling for me to be quiet. She nodded, smiling big.
"Yep! In a little over a month, right before the hundredth issue is published! But it's a secret, so make sure not to tell anyone." She whispered again.
"I really hope it happens! I haven't been to a big party in so long~!" I said dreamily as I pressed my hands to my cheeks.
Meredy giggled, before she gasped. "Oh! I almost forgot! It's going to be a big, Masquerade Ball, so you'll need a date!"
My dream was immediately shattered.
"W-what...?" I choked out, frozen in my mid-dream trance.
"Ah, I gotta go! Mrs. Mira's coffee isn't going to make itself! See ya, Lu!" Meredy waved cheerfully, apparently not noticing my deflated excitement.
I slowly turned my rolling-chair back toward my computer, but my fingers refused to type.
Levy's face suddenly appeared from over the cubical wall, smiling. "Hey Lu--woah!" she gasped as she noticed my bewildered face. "Y-you don't look so good..."
I snapped out of my trance and smiled up at the girl. "W-what makes you say that...haha..." I replied, scratching the back of my head nervously.
"You look...worried. You need any help with your article?" Levy questioned kindly.
"Oh, no! I'm actually almost done. Thank you, though!" I smiled. Levy nodded and disappeared back to her cubical.
Needless to say, I didn't finish my article.
