*Lucy's POV*
Four o' clock finally came and my work day was over. I hardly got anymore work done after Meredy stopped by. All I could think of was the last thing she said: You'll need a date.
I shook the thought from my head as I packed up my things. Sure, I had never been very successful in the love department, but I had more important things to worry about.
"Ready to go?" I heard Juvia's voice say from behind me, snapping me from my thoughts. She had her large, white purse on her arm and her usual smile on her face.
I swung my own red purse onto my shoulder and nodded, following the bluenette to the elevators.
Once we were back in her silver BMW, Juvia turned to me.
"Meredy told you about the party right?" The girl said excitedly.
"Yes..." I simply replied, still hung up about the whole 'you need a date' situation. Of course, Juvia could tell I was conflicted.
"What is it?" She looked at me, her deep blue eyes filled with concern. I sighed and met her gaze.
"Well...Meredy said that I'd need a date, since it was a Masquerade Ball, and of course I'm the only single person in the whole company." I vented.
"Oh, Lucy," Juvia smiled as she started the car, backing out of her parking spot, "it's a whole month away! I'm sure you'll find someone to go with."
I rolled my eyes. "I wouldn't be so sure."
"What do you mean? You're a young, attractive female," Juvia wiggled her eyesbrows, causing me to giggle, "I know any guy would be dying to date the great Lucy Heartfilia!"
"Maybe, but would I be dying to date them, is the real question." I replied, letting my long hair loose from its bun. I ran my fingers through it as Juvia pondered to herself quietly.
"Well if you're that worried, I may have a solution." Juvia spoke as we got stopped in traffic. Magnolia, being a big city, had horrible traffic, especially at this time since its when most people got off of work.
I looked at my best friend. Her eyes held a sort of mysterious glare in them that I couldn't figure out.
"A solution?" I questioned.
"Yes. At work earlier, I overheard Evergreen and Kinana talking about this rumor about wishing on stars." Juvia said, her tone more serious than usual.
"Wishing on stars? Seriously?" I crossed my arms and shot Juvia an 'are-you-serious' glare.
Rumors. They always seemed to stir up trouble. Fake or real, people spread them like wildfire, not caring about who they hurt or what they do. I thought the nonsense of gossip and rumors would end along with high-school, but I was sadly mistaken.
"Seriously. Now listen." Juvia said. "There's been talk that many people's wishes have actually been coming true. Of course, no one believed it at first, but there have been some witnesses coming clean about it."
I pondered about this. Stars, balls of hot air millions of miles from here, making silly wishes come true? How would that even work? I decided to ask Juvia this.
"Well, I'm not sure." the bluenette said as the traffic finally started to move. "I wanted to do a little more digging, but I didn't have time at work. Think maybe it has something to do with magic?"
"Hmm, the whole thing seems a bit far-fetched to me..." I said, putting my finger to my chin in thought. "What if someone wished for a million dollars or something? How could that just happen?"
Juvia laughed. "You're as sharp as ever, Lucy. I don't know, but if you really want the answer to your so-called 'bad luck with men' maybe you should give it a try and see what happens?"
We had just pulled into my apartment complex parking lot. I sat thinking for a second before grabbed my purse from the backseat.
"Thanks for the ride, Juvia! I'll see you tomorrow!" I smiled as Juvia pulled me into a hug.
When we parted, Juvia flashed me her signature smile. "Yep! I'll pick you up, same time as usual."
I closed the car door and waved as Juvia drove away.
"Wishing on stars, huh?" I thought as I rode the elevator to the fourteenth floor. "We'll just have to see about that."
