Chapter 8

I'm about to meet the guys I'm going to work for. One Direction.

We walk up to the table. I see four guys sitting there, laughing and joking. One is a blonde with a nice smile, a kind looking one with a brown buzz cut, a very tan one with nice, dark hair, and lastly, a laughing guy with nice brownish hair. I know their names. Harry made me practice. But I don't think of them by their names quite yet. They all have visible tattoos except the blonde. He has none.

Harry and I approach the table and my stomach ties in knots. I really hope we all get along, because I will quickly lose this job if we don't.

They all push their chairs out and smile when I reach the table.

The blonde speaks first.

"Hello!" He greets cheerfully. Looks like I don't have to worry about him disliking me. "I'm Niall." He smiles again and sits.

The one I recognize as Zayn talks, speaking simply.

"I'm Zayn," he announces with a small smile.

"And I'm Louis. But I don't care what you call me," his goofy grin is contagious and I find myself smiling, too.

Last is the one named Liam.

"I'm Liam. It's very nice to meet you." He gives a kind smile and even walks around to pull out my chair for me to sit in. I blush. What a gentleman.

Harry snorts at this.

"Don't be so petty," I whisper to him, He rolls his eyes. In the short three weeks he and I have known each other, we've become close friends and tease each other constantly.

They launch into conversation. Something about a football game.

"And that goal at the end," Niall gasps. "Wow." I zone out after this, admiring the restaurant. It is a large, fancy one with chandeliers decorating the ceiling.

I then notice all eyes of the boys are on me.

"Claire?"

"Yes?" Did they say something? "What do you need, Louis?"

They all chuckle at this.

"I asked you about yourself." Louis laughs again.

"Oh," I blush "sorry, I zoned out." I feel the heat rising in my cheeks as they chuckle again.

I proceed to tell them about myself and ask them questions back.

I learn their ages, their backgrounds, and about who's-dating-who.

The dinner itself goes very well. I wanted to pay for my own meal but Liam insisted on paying for it. He's nice.

While Harry and I are driving home, he pulls into a parking lot.

"What are you doing, Harry?"

He smiles cheekily. He then opens his door and runs around the car to open mine. Once he opens it, he pulls me out of the car unexpectedly.

"Harry!" I laugh "where are we going?"

He nods at a nice cream parlor. "It's the best ice cream in London."

As we walk inside, I realize it is packed. But Harry leads me to the back of the store.

"Harry, the line is back there," I state, gesturing towards the long and growing line.

He leads me behind the counter and says hello to a guy.

"Hey!" They say in unison.

"Harry, I haven't seen you in forever!"

"We were in the area and I thought I'd drop by and say hello." Harry says.

"We?" The guy turns his head. It's only then that he notices me.

"Oh," he smiles brightly at me. Then turns his head back to Harry. "And who might this lovely lady be?" He says it in a kind way, not an I-want-to-date-you way.

"This is Claire. She's my close friend, and now, she works with me too."

After a while of chatting, Harry decides we need to go to the line. After he says this to the guy, whom I've now learned is named Chad, we start to head to the end of the long line.

Chad smiles. "No, Harry, I can hook you up. Wait here." He disappears behind a wall and reappears again.

"Wait, what kind of ice cream do you want?"

"Chocolate." Harry and I both say. I giggle and whisper "Jinx,"

After a minute, Chad reappears one more time, but this time holding a huge tub of chocolate ice cream.

"Lad, wow!" Harry exclaims. Chad hands him the large container.

"Take it home!" He says. "They let the employees take home a huge tub from the older ones. It's a week old, so it should be good but by regulation we aren't allowed to sell it." He explains. Harry and I grin at each other.

"Thanks Chad," we both smile and harry continues, "I owe you."

After we say goodbye and leave, it doesn't take long to reach my apartment.

Harry bursts into the door and heads for the kitchen. He returns with two spoons.

"Bowls?" I question.

"Nope." He smiles that cheeky grin again.

We sink into the couch, put in a movie, and begin chowing down on the ice cream.

By the time the movie is over, we've finished half the carton. That's a lot more than you'd think, because this isn't regular sized container. It's probably three times larger than a regular one. I eventually manage to shove it into the freezer.

"We'll finish it off tomorrow," he says from the couch, popping in a another movie.

By the time the second movie is over, it's two in the morning and we're both dead tired. Harry gets up to leave.

"Harry, you shouldn't drive when you're so tired," I warn.

"Well how am I supposed to get home?" He questions groggily.

"Just sleep on my couch." I lazily wave my hand toward the couch.

He agrees easily and I retrieve some pillows and blankets.

I head to my room, but before I go inside, I turn my head around the corner.

"Goodnight, Harry."

His soft snores answer. I smiles and head to bed.
