I sat there waiting for Alex to go inside. Only she turned towards me instead of the door. Hopefully she hadn't heard me and was just turning to say good night. To my surprise she leaned over and kissed me. I froze in place temporarily. "Jason this works better if you kiss back."
"Alex, you're kind of my best friends girlfriend." I tried to protest but ended up kissing her back. She pulled back with a smile and got out. "Good night Alex."
"Night Jason." Alex waved and walked to her front door. I drove back to Max's house after she was inside. When I got back Jesse was sitting on the front porch.
"Jase, did you take Alex home? I really need to talk to her." Jesse stood up when I got closer to him. I suppressed my guilt and avoided talking. I nodded my head and he looked a little relieved. "Good, can I borrow your car i really need to apologize to her."
"Jess she's really upset right now. I don't know what you did but she's a little off right now. I'd just go home if I were you." I looked over my best friend and notice the disheveled hair, and mismatched buttons "You didn't, Jesse why would you... never mind get in the car I'm taking you home."
"Jason don't make that face like you're so appalled. Its not something I'm proud of. Its not like I've never done it before." Jesse got in the passenger seat an noticed Alex's jacket. He got that I have a plan look.
"No Jesse, I'll drop it off to her. You don't need to be around her right now." I drove past Alex's house and dropped Jesse off at home. He just looked at me like i'd lost my mind.
"Jason if you don't take me I'll just drive myself. Either way it goes I'm going to see my girlfriend." Jesse was a stubborn bastard. I did a u turn and drove back to Alex's house. When I parked I got out with Jesse. Alex answered the door and slammed it when she saw Jesse. A second later her brother answered the door.
"Sorry about that, who are you two?" Her brother looked down at us and glared. I sighed and tried to pull Jesse off the porch.
"I'm Jesse, that's Jason and I need to talk to Alex." Jesse yanked his arm away from me and stood straighter. I face palmed and shook my head.
"Forgive him he's tired. He can call Alex tomorrow. Can you just give her the jacket please?" I handed him her black hoodie. He nodded and stepped out of the door to show Alex. "I'm sorry Alex I told him not to."
"It's cool Jase. Leo, the dumb ass in a black shirt is Jesse, and he needs to go home now. The other one is Jason and he can hang out if you don't mind." Alex crossed her arms and looked up at Leo.
"I need to talk to you Alex, preferably not in front of a marine sniper." Apparently Jesse remembered Alex talking about Leo. I shook my head to tell her don't do it.
"Jesse if you have something to say, you can say I in front of my big brother. Especially since he already wants to kick your ass." Alex stepped in front if her brother and glared. Jesse, not one to give up, cleared his throat.
"I'm sorry, for everything. I don't deserve you, and I shouldn't have done that." Jesse sounded apologetic, but I knew better. Apparently so did Alex. She laughed and shook her head.
"Jesse, I fell for that speech the first three times. I'm done hearing how you don't deserve me and how sorry you are. I'm sorry I didn't see you would never change. I'm also sorry I dated you and not Jason, at least he's sweet." She closed the door and Jesse just stood there. I shook my head and tried to pull him to the car. He needed to go home and chill out.
"Come on Jess, she's just upset. You know as well as I do Alex will call you in the morning." I got him in the car and drove to his house. When we go there he got out with out a word and walked to the front door. At least if Alex didn't call him in the morning they'd have to see each other at school monday. I got home around three and went straight to my room. My parents weren't home so didn't get lectured. I'd started to doze off when my cell rang.
"Hello?"
"Hey Jase, uhm... did you get home alright?"
"Alex? Why are you calling me? I got home just fine so did Your boyfriend."
"I just wanted to make sure he didn't give you hell all the way home."
"No he was silent, now call the depressed bastard before he does something really stupid." I couldn't believe I'd just told her to take him back. My brain seemed to be on half asleep auto pilot and I knew I'd regret it when I got up.
