Hermione Granger started her first day at Hogwarts as Head Girl like every other school day. She was up bright and early and study as she ate her breakfast with Ron stuffing his face to her right and Harry giving Malfoy a stink eye from across the mess hall. She ignored all the chatter and screeching of approaching owls as she memorised a list of potion ingredients. She had been furiously studying for this potion but couldn't remember the list of ingredients with their steps and she, Hermione Granger, was not prepared to be second best at anything except slacking.

She finished her breakfast and went to her first class, Charms, it was her final year at Hogwarts and she still wasn't the best at Potions, she was second to Malfoy, Head Boy, of all people. She was outraged, the fool never seemed to study or take exams seriously it was a conundrum. She was sitting in Charms next to Harry and across the aisle from Malfoy himself, the little devil had already finished his test and was occupying his time with making his paper airplane fly using Wingarem Leviosa she focused back on her test ignoring his immaturity. She was next to finish her test and smiled smugly, she knew this was a surefire hundred. Hermione felt someone looking at her and she looked and saw the Slytherin Prince smirking at her superiority with his own. He stuck out his tongue which didn't match his cold, elegant appearance. Rolling her eyes she turned away before turning back briefly to stick her tongue out back. She had to have the last word. The tests were graded and handed back and the only two that got perfect scores were Hermione and Malfoy.

"Better fight to keep top student, Granger," Malfoy said in a low voice as he walked past her out the door.

Her next classes were Transfiguration and then it was Arithmetic then lunch. After lunch, she would have Defense Against the Dark Arts than a test in Potions and she still couldn't remember the steps or ingredients. At lunch it was pretty much the same as breakfast, Ron stuffing his face with ham and Harry was once again glaring at Malfoy, Hermione followed Harry's gaze and saw Malfoy with his nose in a book. She pushed down a smile, turns out he had to study like an actual person, sometimes she forgot he was human. Hermione found herself staring at the Slytherin table.

"Mione, you okay?" Harry asked as he stopped glaring.

"Of course. Just trying to memorise this before Potions." Hermione said tearing her eyes away from the blonde snake.

"And staring at Malfoy helps you memorise things?"

"I wasn't staring at that ferret," Hermione scowled. "I have to go to the library." And with that, she left and buries herself under stacks of books deep in the maze of the library.

Her next class came in a blink of an eye. Soon she was in Defense Against the Dark Arts, they had a new teacher. Professor Yorkshire, he was a middle aged man with salt and pepper hair and cheerful brown eyes and the beginnings of a scruffy beard.

"Today we will be assessing your skills. I will be assigning everyone a sparring partner from a different house. I know most of you are rather ahead of the lessons I should be teaching so the purpose is to show me what you know, impress me." The professor said with a cheerful note. "Harry Potter you'll be with Pansy Parkinson. Ronald Weasley with Gregory Goyle. Draco Malfoy with Hermione Granger..." The rest of the names blurred when she heard this, why had she gotten him of all people.

She looked for him across the classroom and he was leant back in a chair talking to Blaise Zabini as he took a bite out of a green apple. He looked so arrogant, the way he smirked as if he were looking down on all of us.

Everyone paired up, not looking too happy about the matches. Hermione stood several paces away from Malfoy as she silently recited the ingredients of the potion for her next class.

"Begin."

Her thoughts were cut short and she immediately said, "expelliarmus!" Malfoy's wand flew from his hand into her own, she couldn't believe he had let her disarm him so easily. He had a sly smirk making him look downright devious.

"Stupfey!" He called out and Hermione felt her body go rigid before her world turned black. The last thing she heard was Malfoy whisper in her ear, "you were forgetting peppermint, for the potion." Then her world was gone.

Draco was standing over the unconscious Granger holding both of their wands. Professor Yorkshire had been watching the whole thing, and apparently stunned that Draco was already powerful enough to use magic without his wand. Potter and Weasel abandoned their fights and ran to the aid of their friend.

"What did you do to her you ferret?" Potter scowled.

"Relax golden boy, it was a simple stunning spell. Your precious, little mudblood will be fine." Draco looked down at her and her hair was splayed over her face, Weasley brushed her hair away and picked her up bridal style with her head lolling on his shoulder.

Draco watched as her guardians carried her out of the room to the infirmary until she woke up. Draco didn't see her the rest of the class so Professor Yorkshire became his sparring partner, and Draco realised something, Yorkshire couldn't do magic without his wand. Silently laughing, Draco disarmed him and with a quick stunning spell, he sent his teacher skidding backwards leaving him speechless.

Granger was back in Potions for the test but she looked ashamed of herself. Letting herself get defeated so easily, she stole glances at him as she gathered her ingredients. He smirked when he saw her grab peppermint and with that, he shut her out and focused on his own.

Slughorn walked around the class and Malfoy had perfected his potion, Hermione scowled into her own which was damn near perfect but she accidentally mixed it three times clockwise rather than twice.

At the end of the day, Hermione retired to the common room with Harry and Ron extremely frustrated with her day's performance. Headmistress McGonagall summoned her to her office and what she was about to say would change Hermione's life.

"You wanted to see me, ma'am?" She asked timidly.

"Yes, Ms.Granger. I have been observing you today and I think it would be a wise move if we transferred houses."

"What?" Hermione asked in shock.

"There is no doubt that you are brave, you have proven that but I an going to transfer you to Slytherin so you can focus more on your ambition. With some effort, you could easily become one of the most powerful witches."

"But not Slytherin! Ma'am, please not Slytherin. Why not Ravenclaw?"

"You are already the smartest, but I want you to become powerful," McGonagall said with conviction. "I will be making the announcement at supper, why don't you go wash up."

Once dismissed Hermione ran back to Gryffindor. "What did McGonagall want, Mione?" Harry asked.

She didn't say anything, but just shook her head mutely and went to her room to change out of her robes and into muggle clothes. A pair of black jeans and a loose, green blouse. She brushed out her hair which was in shiny curls down her back.

She walked silently to the great hall and took her place in between Ron and Harry and stared down at the table solemnly.

"Attention!" Headmistress McGonagall said her voice clear as a bell as she stood at the podium. "Today we are making history. This is the first time I would like to transfer a student to another house." Everyone was silent at this. "She is an impeccable student with enough kindness to be a Hufflepuff, enough intelligence to be a Ravenclaw, and plenty of bravery to be a Gryffindor, but today I am transferring her to Slytherin, please rise Ms.Hermione Granger."
