I see a blur of green as I finish off the first caffeinated drink. Adam takes a confident stride through the doorway as I give the first customer her coffee. She nods gratefully, walking away towards the sofas.
I look up from counting the money to see Adam already leaning over the counter. His beard has grown a bit more, though it was hardly noticeable. "Back for more?" I joke, ready to take down his order.
He laughs gently at my attitude as he folds his hands in front of me.
"I'd like a black coffee, and you." My head shoots up in surprise, a spreading of red across my face. I fail to croak out a confused "What?" as I stand there, my face distorted with confusion.
"Kidding sweetheart. But I'd love that black coffee," Adam says, an amused look swirling in his eyes. I can tell he's stifling back fits of laughter.
My hand reaches out to slap his exposed skin, embarrassment and mild anger boiling in my stomach.
His strong hand grips my wrist. I squeak in surprise, my teeth clenching beneath my mouth.
"Not so fast," he whispers, sending chills down my spine.
Adam lifts my gaze with his icy eyes. The sides of his lips tug upwards into a reassuring smile, calming down my heartbeat.
"I'll get your coffee right away," I mutter, smoothing down my uniform's pale yellow apron. I turn around, facing the assortment of machines and sauces.

After serving Adam his piping hot coffee, that I somehow managed to spill on myself, I lean against the counters. My elbows dig into the granite as I watch him take a seat slightly off to the side.
"Work been busy?" he pipes up, disrupting the silence.
It was a common question that I got asked by my ex-boyfriend. He broke me in a million pieces, leaving me on my own to piece myself back together.
He said he loved me, with every fiber he had. And, I believed him.
Needless to say, I broke it off.
I sigh, remembering I still had a question to answer.
"Not since last month," I mutter, placing my hands on my face. The cooling texture of my skin rubs against my cheek as I hear Adam shuffle his chair around.
The metal of seat squeaks against the flooring, an agitating sound I had gotten generally used to.
My head rises to greet him, sitting directly across from me. "When do you get a day off?" he questions, taking a sip out of his cup. His lips upturn into a natural smile, his eyes filling up with their attractive icy colour.
My body wriggles around, discomfort wracking at my spine. I puff up my cheeks and move them around, a common habit I tend to do when I'm thinking.
I feel Adam's amused eyes staring at me.
The date finally enters my head as I look up towards his ocean eyes.
"I think I get off... Saturday?" I think for a bit longer, finally coming into conclusion that it was Saturday. I nod my head in confirmation as Adam does the same.
I fix my posture as I reflexively fluff out my hair. It dangles down with loose strands flowing in the artificial breeze.
Adam leans back in his chair. His body moves out of his seat with swift movements as he throws the cup into a nearby trash can.
"Well, thanks for the coffee sweetheart. See you tomorrow!" Adam calls out, waving his hand towards me. The door closes softly, his dark green sweatshirt leaving my gaze.
I smile like he was he biggest idiot I knew. He was trying to seduce me, and I knew it. The very thought of it sent butterflies into my stomach.
I knew when a boy liked me, or didn't. Simple as that.
I smile quietly to myself as a new customer entered Daisy & Co.
