How it began

It's a small town in Texas. It's summer and it's hot outside. There is nothing special about this town and its schools. People live here, work here and you have to drive for about half an hour to get to the mall. That's where all the teenagers go to hang out with their friends in their freetime.

But right now, all the teenagers are at school on this really hot summer day. So is Fabienne, a 16-year-old girl. She has medium long blonde hair and blue eyes. She's 5 feet 6 inches tall and skinny. Most people would describe her as a pretty girl. But let's not focus on her looks. Now, Fabienne is brave and a feminist. And her biggest wish is that more people in her town become feminists. That's not the case. Most women here are housewives doing chores like cleaning, cooking and taking care of the kids. For Fabienne this is the most terrifying thing to become. Sure, she has no clue what she wants to do after graduation but she knows that she wants to do something and most of all she wants to get out of this town before some white christian boy on her school decides to take her as his property and makes her his maid. It's true, that's how the boys and men make Fabienne feel. Like she's worth nothing and like it's okay to objectify her.

But Fabienne doesn't want to have it that way.

Ugh, it's so hot!, Fabienne thought. She was sitting outside eating her lunch with some other girls from the cheerleading team.

"I just hate it how we aren't allowed to wear shorts or tops! It's just not fair. We can see the boy's knees and shoulders but they mustn't see ours. Why's that? It just doesn't make any sense!", Fabienne sighed annoyedly.

"Oh, there we go again,", the other girls replied, "But you know the boys and the teachers. They don't let us get away with breaking dress code. And my parents would totally kill me if I got send home again. They always get so mad. God wants you to be modest, they'll say. Thanks for that, Jesus.", said Alexa.

They're all so religous! And the other's are even more strict than Alexa and her parents. No wonder they don't dare to disagree with anything.

"But girls, just look: Last summer when it was even hotter almost every day some girls passed out because they were overheated and dehydrated. C'mon this just can't be right. Aren't we risking our very own health by wearing long jeans and jumpers in summer?", protested Fabienne.

"Fabi, please, just stop it.", Sophie said while rolling her eyes back.

"I dress the way Jesus would want me to.", explained Maria. She's one of the most religous for sure!

Fabienne knew she had to give up. There was no chance in convincing the others.

"Well, okay then. I'll see you at the field."

I won't give up. Damn this ducking school - this whole town.
