Chapter two~
“Come on, get up and ready. It’s going to be a long road trip.” I groaned but obeyed Jan’s command. Slowly I rolled out of bed and made my way to my shower. Last night I had grabbed everything I needed in the morning and placed it in the bathroom all ready to go.
I stripped off my clothes and jumped into the warm water. My ice cold body warmed instantly. After washing my hair I turned off the water and rested my head against the wall.
What am I even getting myself into? I mean…. I barely know anybody…. Then again Gramps and Jan are going so even if I didn’t I would be alone anyway.
I got out and dried myself before changing into black ripped skinny jeans, an ‘All Time Low’ band tee and finished off with my black and white Chucks.
I blow dried my ash brown/blond hair leaving it out and then started on my makeup. I applied black eyeliner and a thin layer of lip balm on my full lips.
I’ve never been girly, nor was I ever a tom boy. I’ve always simply been a plain Jane.
I sighed and looked at my reflection. I guess I’m ‘pretty’? Maybe, I don’t know. I’ve never been conceited.
I packed away all my things again and walked out of my room. I’ll probably be back again, but it still feels weird.
Walking down the stairs I could already hear all the voices. I don’t think that my house has ever been this lively before. It’s a strange feeling. Dad said that the amount of people wasn’t even half of the real size. How am I going to manage? I’ve gone from being by myself to around being around 50 plus people.
Blah, this hurts my head.
“Morning sweet heart.” I smiled up at grandpa and took the coffee he offered me gladly.
“Good morning gramps.” I took a sip of the dark coloured liquid and finished it quickly.
“You like it?” Looking up surprised I grinned at…. At my dad. I’m going to have to get used to this.
“Yeah, it’s lovely.” He chuckled and winked.
“My little girl is just like me then, a coffee addict.” I couldn’t help but laugh. I think everything might be okay. Then again it might be too early to tell.
“Let’s get a move on!” Jan’s loud voice made about half the people in the room jump. Slowly everyone made their way to the vans. Jan inspected the house, her beady brown eyes making sure everything was in place in the most obvious way possible. Sometimes I don’t see how anyone could like her. I remember when I was a kid mom used to ask her to babysit me. She would always make a big deal out of it, saying that her sister’s bastard child was none of her business. As soon as mom would leave though, Jan would put on my favourite movie and make my favourite meal before lying down with me and watching the ‘land before time’ series by my side. When mom came back she would always find us cuddled up with each other in front of the TV in a blanket fort we’d made. I slightly smiled at the memory.
“Come on bub, you’re in with me.” I grinned at dad and jumped into the passenger’s seat while he walked over to the driver’s side. I could feel the van move from the people jumping in the back.
“So how far is this place anyway?” I asked while putting on my seatbelt.
“Um… two and a half hours or so.” I sighed and grumbled under my breath. “I got this for you. Something tells me you’re just like your mother with long trips.” I grabbed the pillow thankfully and leaned comfortably on it.
“Yeah, pretty much.” I inspected the beautifully coloured pillow. It must be home made. Who ever made it had placed dried lavender inside it; the aroma filled my nose and made my eyes droop. Mom always used to smell of lavender.
