Prologue
"Dad? Daddy were are you?" I walk down the stairs. My little bare feet hardly make a sound as I walk to the living room. My tiny hand brushes against the wall. When I enter the living room, I scream.
I am paralyzed with terror. Humanoid figures are clawing at the windows. Siliva froths and drips from their bloody mouths. They are completely hairless, with gold eyes devoid of emotion. The most horrifying was my realization that they were once human.
The glass of the window shatters. It was the only barrier between me and the monstrous creatures.
I scream.
I am jolted awake by my horrific nightmare. I wish that it was just a dream. But it's not. It's a flashback from when I was three.
I was three when the virus ran rampant. Fourteen years ago, a woman by the name of Dominique Lapoint found a cure to everything. She found a way to make humans stronger. If we lost a limb, we would grow it back. If we got cancer, our bodies would kick it out.
But there was a fatal flaw in her serum. We only discovered the repercussions a year later, when humans injected with the serum lost all of their hair.
Slowly, they got stronger. Their muscles bulged. They became powerful enough to lift cars, and then throw them one hundred yards. They were unstoppable.
Soon, the most devoted mothers killed their own children, or worse, infected them. Countries that had been allies for decades turned on each other,in complete war. Soon the entire planet became war torn.
Then, the creatures eyes turned gold, and they lost all emotion. They were almost immortal.
My father, Andrew Monro, discovered the only way to kill them. Either a bullet to the heart, or ice.
If you capture one, you can inject them with a strong moose tranquilizer and put them in a tank of ice for twelve days. They will become human again.
But then, they lost the ability of rational thought.
Dominique Lapoint's lab was attacked by them. They rampaged through the building, killing all of the workers or infecting them. Blood ran in rivers down the walls. Dominique was never seen again.
Sudenly, the future of humanity became bleak and grim.
But there is still a chance of survival. They are The Rebels. They are immune to the virus. I am one of them. I am Tia.
Endless running. That was what my life was like since I was three, before I found The House.
The zombies are emotionless, but not brainless. They have figured out what I am. They are out for blood.
My blood.
