Scene 3
Julian's dining room table. Julian and his mom and
dad are eating dinner.
JULIAN
...and then the next day, the doctor told her that she
wasn't supposed to fall asleep that night! She might
have bad headaches for the rest of her life.
MOM
It sounds like you really care about this girl.
JULIAN
No, it's just that I'm scared for her. Her life might
change and I don't think she can handle it.
MOM
It sounds like you like her.
DAD
Have you asked her out yet?
JULIAN
Oh my God! What's wrong with you guys? I just want her
to be okay; I don't want to have sex with her!
DAD
Julian.
JULIAN
Sorry! I'm sorry.
MOM
Are you at least going to stay in touch?
JULIAN
I don't know. Maybe. I have her Facebook.
MOM
You should call her, it's more personal.
JULIAN
I don't wanna be weird around her. I don't think she
even likes me.
MOM
How could she not like you?
JULIAN
A lot of people don't like me, mom. Half of my grade
doesn't like me.
MOM
Half the people in your grade are idiots.
JULIAN
Whatever. I don't want to look like an idiot.
DAD
You don't have anything to do tomorrow, right?
JULIAN
No, it's Saturday.
DAD
Ask her to go see a movie or something.
JULIAN
I am not asking her out.
MOM
It'd be really nice if you did.
JULIAN
C'mon, mom!
MOM
Why not?
JULIAN
I don't like her that way!
MOM
Even if you don't, just to try it out.
JULIAN
I'm going to my room!
Julian gets up, takes a few wobbling steps to his
wheelchair, sits down, then exits.
