Outside of a movie theater. Julian is waiting.
April enters. Julian waves half-heartedly and
April responds with the same.
APRIL
Hi.
JULIAN
Hi.
Beat.
APRIL
So, I guess we're a bit early.
JULIAN
Yeah. Um, wanna sit down?
APRIL
Sure. Sits, then a pause. I just, wanna make something
clear. Is this a date?
JULIAN
Kind of?
APRIL
Okay. I mean, there's nothing wrong with that, I just
wanted to make sure.
JULIAN
Yeah.
Beat.
APRIL
Is it because you feel sorry for me?
JULIAN
No! No. I just, think you're nice.
APRIL
Thanks.
JULIAN
Do you not want to go on a date? I mean, it's fine if
you just want to do this as friends or something.
APRIL
No, no, I'd like to go on a date. I mean it's nice to
be on a date. I'm enjoying myself.
JULIAN
No you're not. We're having awkward conversation about
how this is a date.
APRIL
I mean...Yeah.
Pause.
JULIAN
Is it a problem that I'm in a wheelchair?
APRIL
What? No! It's fine. I mean, it's not fine, it's
terrible, but I don't really mind!
JULIAN
Are you going to do that every time we talk about me?
APRIL
Sorry, that was kind of stupid.
JULIAN
Yeah.
APRIL
Don't agree with me!
JULIAN
Sorry!
APRIL
No, I'm sorry, that was rude.
JULIAN
Okay, let's agree to never say sorry to each other ever
