You know that moment just when you wake up? When the rising sunlight filters through the windows, bouncing across the floor, and in that moment everything seems perfect? Yeah that's how I felt. For about two seconds.
Once that warm feeling of just waking up had subsided I was filled with a sinking, cold, dread. Today was the day- the first day of a long school year. Sighing, I kicked off the covers and after realizing I was slightly behind schedule, I groaned and walked across the floor to my closet.
Of course I was utterly unprepared and had not picked an outfit last night. Of course, these first impressions were kinda important to me, but I hadn't thought that far ahead yet. I flipped through the clothing hanging on my hangers, nothing seeming quite right. I couldn't believe how difficult this seemed today, I usually didn't care about this kind of stuff.
I had never been so frustrated. Whenever I have plenty of time, I can pick an outfit in two seconds; but now with five minutes before I had to go, I still had no outfit picked.
Finally deciding enough was enough, I grabbed a pair of light wash denim shorts and an olive green t-shirt. Throwing on a few gold necklaces and my white converse, I gave myself a last once over in my mirror.
My hair was surprisingly manageable today, the wavy curls had actually cooperated, and my makeup -though rushed- looked decent enough. Mentally preparing myself one last time, I headed downstairs to get some breakfast before I had to leave.
Hopping into my car, I saw a familiar figure coming out of the house next door. I rolled down my window.
"Hey Ryland! Your first day of school too?" I asked him.
"Yup," he said, "see you after?"
"Of course," I said with a smile and rolled my windows back up, backing out of the driveway.
Driving to school, I noticed a sleek black car right behind me. The car followed my every move, but I shrugged it off. It kinda looked familiar but I couldn't place why.
As I turned into the school parking lot, I noticed the car again, still on my tail. Huh, weird, maybe just someone who lives near me that goes to this school. Maybe I'll meet someone! I thought to myself, but my inner curiosity was dying to know who this person was.
As I got out of my car I spotted that black car parked across from me, and when I saw the boy who stepped out of it, I stared in confusion for a moment before it dawned on me.
"Ryland? You go here?" I asked. Wondering how in the world I hadn't recognized his car, and how this had never come up in the past few days we'd talked.

A/N sorry for the short chapter! It's kinda like half a chapter because I'm switching right to Rylands POV and uploading at the same time! :) hope you like it!
