The chestnut haired boy turned his head at the sound of the apartment's door opening. Todd had just arrived holding groceries in one hand and in the other, a brown paper bag. Confused, Dirk was lying on the couch wearing The Mexican Funeral shirt that Todd gave to him not too long ago.

"Hey uh, Todd what do you think you're doing? We really shouldn't be drinking; not in the state we're in. There's still so much work we need to focus on and plus, I'm extremely tired physically and mentally. I doubt that alcohol is the right solution to any of the damage that's happened. You need to get some rest, Todd." Dirk warned.

Todd knew that he still had to work some things out with Amanda and his mental state; he was still immensely hurt and in disbelief of what happened although he decided to take the time he still had now and relax. He let out a huge sigh as he placed the plastic bags on the table and slumped down on the couch.

The shorter one huffed, "I have been through a lot of shit, Dirk. You and I both know that. Please, just let me take a moment to get my thoughts straight. This whole case with Patrick Spring has been messing with my head and Amanda doesn't want to see my face ever again. Look, I know that it's not the best option right now but I just need a minute or two to calm myself down okay? It would be great if you could acknowledge that for a second."

"Well if you won't take my advice, I will. See you in a few hours." Just as Dirk was about to stand up, Todd grabbed his arm and whispered, "Stay.. please."
The taller one held a stern look on his face for a few moments before giving in to the other's ice blue eyes and took a deep breath.
"Fine, I'll have a glass maybe even two but after this I'm going straight to sleep."

Todd couldn't help but smile at the crimson red that danced across Dirk's cheeks. They both found themselves sat on the floor infront of the couch with the sound of an old CD that echoed throughout the apartment. The shorter one tried to stop chuckling at Dirk's ramblings but to no avail. It was already known to him that Dirk could be a little strange sometimes but when he was drunk, it was as if he turned into a completely different person.
"Hey Todd, heyy" Dirk purred, beaming at him with innocent eyes.
"If you were to drop a hat onto the ground," He swung an arm onto Todd's shoulder, "would the world be wearing a tiny hat?"
"Goodness Dirk remind me to never give you any drinks ever again" Todd said snickering.
"I diiid warn you~" he replied in a singsong tone.

The longer Todd held his gaze towards Dirk, the more he started to see the intricate details of his features. He noticed how his eyes always changed with the weather. They were currently the colour of sun shining through honey complimented by a slight hue of violet. The freckles on his neck were scattered like constellations in addition to his broad shoulders which made him seem a lot taller than he actually was. Whenever Dirk smiled, his eyes crinkled slightly making it almost impossible to not laugh along with him. Every time Todd witnessed Dirk's face light up with joy, for a split second he believed that maybe they were connected in some bizarre way. But the feature that caught Todd's eye the most was his lips. The wine had stained them a cherry red and they looked just as soft as silk. They were coated by pigment of the sunset making Todd stare even more. He always wondered what it would be like to touch lips that were as plush as Dirk's with his own.

The laughter died down after a few moments when Dirk heard some quietly played strums of a guitar. He looked up before Todd had the chance to glance away.
"May I have this dance, Sir Brotzman?" He stood up and stretched out a hand before dramatically bowing down and meeting Todd's eyes.
He rolled his eyes but without hesitation, Todd accepted and slowly laced his fingers around Dirk's hand.

Come with me my love

The raven haired boy trailed his hands up to Dirk's smooth ivory neck and simply let them rest there. He didn't really know what he was doing, but he didn't want it to stop.

To the sea

Dirk felt the cotton of Todd's shirt under his palms as his feet clicked against the wooden floor. His thoughts could do nothing but focus on his favourite person that was standing right infront of him and who was just as clueless as he was.

The sea of love

They were swaying slightly out of time with the music but they were too infatuated with each other to care. Once Todd felt a pair of lips being pressed against his forehead he closed his eyes longing for the moment to last.

I want to tell you

To the shorter one's surprise, Dirk twirled Todd and dipped him while a faint smile played across his lips. He saw that Todd had rolled his eyes once more and a quiet giggle escaped. He then felt a hand drift away from his neck and towards his cheek. A small force pushed down on the taller one and the playful grin on his face was met with the lips of ribbon that belonged to none other than Todd Brotzman. Now it wasn't only their feet that moved in sync. The kiss was short and chaste as Todd was the one to pull away but without missing a beat, Dirk smoothly placed two fingers upon his chin and lifted his head to return the favour.

How much I love you

For the remaining beats of the song they stood still; Todd embraced in Dirk's arms. No one took the chance to move, not even an inch. Dirk didn't dare let his arms fall even if he was absolutely exhausted. The taller one brushed his fingers through Todd's hair in such an alluring way that the boy almost fell asleep. It was comforting Dirk that it was just them; for just a moment they didn't have to worry about any cases or missing dogs or The Rowdy 3. What mattered most was knowing that they had each other and thay they were at peace with themselves for once. They didn't plan on what they were going to do or had any idea of what the future was to become but for now, they held their position for as long as they could. Even if it never occurred to any of them, something, somewhere, Dirk Gently and Todd Brotzman were connected.
