I was sitting in class, jotting down notes, when my phone vibrated. Looking down at it, I saw the name 'Jerbear' flash across the screen. This kid was my best friend and no matter what he did, he would always make laugh.
Jerbear: hey jay. meet me at my locker after school. I have a surprise.
I replied with a simple okay and focused back on my notes. Since it was the last class of the day and year, I was happy to be getting out of here for a while. This summer was gonna be amazing.
~45 minutes later~
The bell rang and everyone ran out of class. I gathered my things and walked out slowly when my phone began vibrating. I looked down and had a text from Jerod again.

Jerbear: meet me at the old oak tree down by the creek in 20 minutes. I gotta run home and do something first. :3

I smiled and sent Okay. see you then Jerbear ;) . I began putting my stuff in my locker when someone came up and slammed my locker door. I turned around to see none other than the most popular girls in school; Ashley, Mackenzie and Lily. They were also the meanest girls too. Ashley walked up to me and shoved me against my locker.

"Listen here Shepherd. Stay away from Jerod. He's mine and he's never going to like you." she spat, making tears come to my eyes. Did I forget to mention that her and Jerod were dating?

"Awe is little Shepherd crying...again?" Mackenzie laughed.

"God. What a baby. Why cant you just grow up?" Ashley scoffed before knocking me down, kicking me and walking off with the others. I sat up against my locker as the tears came faster than I had expected. The halls were empty and I was glad.

Less than a minute later, I felt someone approach me and sit down. I looked up to a pair of blue eyesthat I had grown accustomed to over the last half of the year. Sean. He was new here and he was my lab partner. His family had moved in next door to me at the beginning of the semester. He was one of my best friends.

"Jay, you okay?" he asked, calmly putting a hand on my shoulder.

"Oh...I'm fine." I said while slowly wiping the last of the tears away.

"You don't have to lie to me. I saw what Ashley and her friends did to you. It's terrible how they treat you."

"Thanks but no matter what I do, they always get away with it. And it doesn't help that I have to put up with Ashley for Jerod's sake."

"Well maybe you should tell him what she does."

"Believe me...I've already tried that. But he doesn't seem to care other believe because Ashley always gets away with it." I said, standing up and grabbing my bag. Sean stood up and helped me get my things.

"Oh. That must really suck." he said as I closed my locker.

"It does."

"Are you doing anything today?" he asked me.

"Well I was supposed to go meet Jerod at the old oak tree down by the creek but I don't think I want him to see me like this."

"Oh okay. Well would you like to come over and play video games?" Sean asked with a smile.

"I guess that would be fun. It would certainly take my mind off of things."

"Great!" he said excitedly as we walked off towards our houses. I guess I better tell Jerod that our plans aren't gonna happen. I pulled out my phone and sent him a text then returned to the new conversation I was having with Sean.

~Jerod's POV ~

I was standing by the old oak tree waiting for Jay to show up. Today would mark the 13 year anniversary of our friendship and I had a surprise for her. I can't believe we've been friends for this long. I thought she would've given up on me when I started dating Ashley but she didn't.

Lately, I've realized that something was changing about our friendship. But not in a bad way. I've kinda been developing feelings for her and I didn't want to ruin our friendship. Another thing that I've begun to realize is that she and Ashley don't get along. So to make her happy, I finally broke up with Ashley. She kind of took it well when I told her that I was breaking up with her because I had feelings for Jaycee.

I was deep into thought and realized that it had been at least 20 minutes. Where was she? I pulled out my phone to text her and see where she was. I looked down and saw that she had texted me like 15 minutes ago so I opened up her text message and read it.

That Girl Tho ♡: Hey sorry. I can't make it today. I kinda have plans with Sean. Don't get mad. And besides, I think you should make plans with your girlfriend. She seems to want you more and more lately. Plans for tomorrow though? <3

I sighed and put my phone back in my pocket. If she was gonna blow me off the day of our 13 year friendiversary for someone she had only met like 3 and a half months ago then I wasn't gonna bother responding.

She's been hanging out with Sean a lot lately and I was starting to get really jealous. She was supposed to my best friend. No one else's. But then again, she's been having a lot of troubles lately and I didn't want to question anything she did.

Knowing that she cancelled our plans made me upset. I sighed and packed up my stuff and headed home. Hopefully the rest of the summer would be better.
