"Noah?"
I knocked again. There was a light on inside the little wooden like cabin that stood between two large trees. This wasn't what I expected when I heard he had a tree house, I was picturing a Bart Simpson like tree house, not an actual little house made from wood.
"Noah I know you're in there, and I know you know it's me. Now let me in, it's cold and I'm not leaving." I huffed, trying to stay calm. He was purposely ignoring me.
Just as I was about to knock again, the door opened quickly and I was pulled inside, letting out an involuntary squeak as Noah's hands gripped my waist.
"Why don't you want me?" His eyes were hazed and his hair was a mess.
"Have you been drinking? Yourself?" My heartbeats sped up and my hands became hotter. I don't know why the thought of Noah drinking makes me this way. Maybe it's because I need him to have enough self-control to stop himself from trying anything with me because God knows's I could be the soberest person on earth and still struggle tremendously to control myself around him.
"I'm not alone, I have Arthur," He sent me a large grin, confusing me even more.
"Who the fuck is Arthur" I questioned, taking his hands from my waist and leading him over to the small couch against the wall opposite the door.
"ARTHUR!!!"
"Okay shh, Ay Dios Mio, how much have you had to drink?" I sat next to him on the couch, having my own question answered when I looked on the coffee table to find an empty bottle of what looked like expensive whisky. Ay Dios Mio, he goes hard. And Fast. "Are you kidding right now Noah? You weren't even gone 20 minutes, what the fuck??"
"There you are baby, hello little guy," I turned to look at Noah to see why he started talking in baby talk, only to see him with a small golden retriever puppy in his arms. Am I dreaming??
"Noah, what the fuck is going on right now," I laughed in confusion, wanting to scream for some reason.
As the puppy heard my voice, it made it's way over to me and started jumping about and crying when I starting petting it. I'm in love oh my god.
"Are you crying, Princesa?"
"What?" I took my left hand away from the puppy and wiped under my eye, "I guess I am, I blame the puppy, he's too cute."
"His name's Arthur, I got him a couple days ago, but I've been waiting since he was born, my neighbour's cousin's dog had them," His eyes didn't leave mine once, making my stomach flutter slightly at his intense stare.
"So you're a dog person then?" I took advantage of Noah's drunk state and decided to try and get to know him a little better.
"Yeah, we always had dogs growing up, but when my... when my dad passed my mom got rid of our dogs because they were too much to handle, but now that she's gone, no one's here to stop me, plus I need something to keep me company when I'm here," I looked up from the puppy to meet Noah's eyes again, the tears now pooling my eyes weren't from the puppy, they were from the vulnerability laced through his voice. Drunk Noah has no guard, no wall shutting everyone out. He would never speak freely about this when he's sober. I picked the puppy up off my lap and sat him on the side of me that Noah wasn't sitting at, and moved closer to Noah, daringly pulling him into a hug, and sighing in relief when he hugged me back. Tightly, may I add.
"Esta bien, estarás bien. Que sepas que estoy aquí (it's okay, you'll be alright. I want you to know I'm here)" I'm not so sure why I started comforting him, but he hugged me tighter, showing me that he needed it.
