Duke sat, awestruck at the blunt lies they feed her. Her mouth twitching from the effort to hold back a long chuckle. This was too rich. Too coincidental.
These behemoth males waltz in her life over a span of a month and she had to discover for herself that they were lycans, males that didn't even have the balls to come out and speak the truth to her face, and they expected her to believe their filthy lies?
Oh, they would feel her wrath like no other.
But Thaddeus on the other hand, he watched. Watched this pretty, little naive mate of theirs get lost in her own head. Albeit he didn't know her well enough to predict her next move, he did know his brother. And he knew Abel was getting impatient, along with his fleeing patience would be his last holds on his temper.
His brother a lycan of yore, a true beast cloaked in human form. One that relied purely on animal drive and human tongue. Which meant he was an horny, irrational pain in the ass. Oh, yes. Thaddeus could already hear the screams of that pretty little female and his twin going at each other's throats.
Duke's husky voice broke him from his thoughts, her silver eyes turning from his twin and unto him with brazen ire.
"A fucking heir? This is stupid." Duke snapped, not knowing what exactly to say at the moment. Then scolding herself for her childish words when she saw the amused faces of those golden brothers.
Her fingers twisted together subconsciously, a nervous tick.
A tick that the twins easily noticed.
"Little beast, you don't seem to realize just how important you are." Thaddeus murmured, standing. Prowling closer to the lithe female.
Her eyes widened slightly, not used to the close proximity of men. And his attire certainly didn't help.
An all black suit, shiny black shoes waxed and neatly polished. Duke could practically smell the money. It made her want to hiss in disgust, for she was never one for over doing it.
"Does it really matter?"
"Of course it doesn't matter, that's why we brought you here, fox eyes. You are a catalyst in the greatest power play the world has ever seen since the lone male Gael and his heir, Olympé, haunted these lands." Rumbled Abel. Thick arms crossing across his chest, golden eyes narrowing into her own.
Blunt and straight to the point. She revealed in it. Plus, it kinda made her want to fuck him. That roughness paired with his looks. Panties fucking drenched.
The corners of her lips twitched as she scooted closer to Dee, her bare feet touching the cool flooring.
"Ah yes, more people I don't care for learning about. Your world is a one that I had strived to leave behind when I came to Chicago, not to find myself in the midst of it once again." Duke stayed, coming to a stop in the middle of the room.
Standing so tall, so proud. She was female with dignity and not some pawn in a Lycan game. Nor did she wish to be toyed with. An air about her so intriguing, so appealing to the pair of males that surrounded her being. Confident and brash, she was the sole prize for those males that waited eagerly for her attention.
"Female, with that tongue, I promise you that you will end up over my knee." The beast in the wild twin snapping its deadly jaws, teeth flashing. Abel was a dangerous one, this she knew. And she fucking lived for it.
"Try me, big boy." Duke shrugged, slowly inching towards Thaddeus, hoping he would be more reasonable and see to protect her from his brother.
But that was hardly the case, Thaddeus was just as wild as his twin, just better at hiding it and controlling it.
A rumbling growl barreled through the room, shaking through her body. Her instincts screaming for her to curl up into a ball and beg for forgiveness, though her stubbornness clawed back and refused to step down even though the male was more than twice her size.
Blue fire clashed with molten gold as the large male prowled towards her, Thaddeus remaining sprawled on the futon.
A wide fist wrapped around her slender neck, his grip firm and demanding. Duke stared dauntlessly back at him, his touch sparking up and down her neck, lighting her up and causing disgust simultaneously.
"Don't touch me male." Her hands coming around his thick wrist and squeezing harshly.
There was no pain for him, such a thing was fickle and easy to ignore for how long the male had been alive, but he felt the click and crunch of his wrist being broke and shattered at the same time.
A vicious smile escaped pink lips as he retracted him hand, his beast's interest had been peaked but him brother's snapping and snarling through their link was enough to stop him from making good on his threats. The infuriating little shit was just about to get fucked long and hard.
Snapping his death dealing jaws at air before sauntering away to take his stance by the door, his hand healing on the way. It was all too surreal to Duke. A life that she struggled to leave behind, the beasts and their world. It was like flipping a coin with lycans. You win some, you lose some. Lycans were a varying breed, the old and new. Werewolves were the old, one's that shifted into actual wolves, but at a monstrous size, the type movies were made about. But the lycans were a far fearsome breed.
Evolution held the breed in its grasp. Though werewolves were plentiful and the archaic breed, lycans were the new and improved. With humanoid features and bipedal stance, they were as beautiful as they were fierce. They were the beasts that mainly inhabited the cities. And easily distinguishable when pissed. Golden lit their eyes like a blazing inferno when provoked, or if they were in sync with their beasts, gold would forever light their eyes.
It was an uncomfortable sense of familiarity when she looked into those said golden eyes. Unwanted memories surfaced and made her tremble in fear. Nights of huddling fearfully in cramped closest, crying the time away. Slobbering maws with glinting canines shining in the light of the full moon. Her father's rage.
A tremble streaked through her body before she reigned it in and tucked that sliver of fear dead inside. Fear was dangerous, it had landed her in too many predicaments before, and she was already in the shitter. She didn't need to be buried any deeper.
"Duke, we understand that you will have a hard time grasping this, but you need to have an open mind." Thaddeus stood, long legs unfurling, allowing him to reach his maximum height. It was an intimidation technique, one that worked quite well on the willowy human.
Duke opened her mouth, a rebuttal lock and loaded and ready to fire in her grasp. And Abel knew it.
"Female, we acquired you easily. Found you and pinpointed who your kin were and are. What makes you think that you are safe from the rest of our kind?" Abel gave a pretty smile. He knew his prey had been caught, for he held her right between his claws.
Duke looked at him and his brother with wide, silver discs. Her emotions laid bare for them to strip and pick apart to their hearts content.
"Where is my brother?" It was a whisper.
And that's when the males knew they fucked up.
