As the two co-workers come to the office, they get busy right away. Putting away their guns and hanging up their coats before going into the meeting room. Rossi and Hotch were already there and discussing some parts of the new case as Rossi looks down at the file. Spencer sits down right away while Meghan goes to sit across from him...her original spot. Slowly, one by one, Morgan, Garcia, Prentiss, and JJ all join in the meeting room and JJ stands to speak of the case.
"Morning everyone I hope you had a pleasant weekend. Today we're working on a case in New York called 'The Executioner'. Please place your attention to the board..."
Everyone looks to the slide show as JJ pushes a button. Instantly, a body shows up on the screen and Meghan immediately pales, which was so not like her. She personally knew those features of the victim. Blond hair, middle-aged woman, blue eyes. She refused to cry, but to stand and intercept JJ's presentation.
"Her name was Kathy Stabler. Late forties. Five children. Divorced but then remarried her husband, Elliot Stabler. She drove a van to and from her children's school activities and was more likely a stay at home and a soccer mom."
Everyone looked at her in confusion and shock. Rossi leaned forward, "You knew this woman Detective Ross?"
Slowly, Meghan nodded. "I...I worked with her husband for seven years."
Everyone exchange glances at each other. This was the first time ANYBODY heard Meghan talk about anyone she knew from her past. They really thought that her job was all she ever did and that she didn't have any friends. Emily picks up the file and skims through it.
"Explain the husband."
Meghan could feel her throat swell up as she held back tears, and spoke in her usual stern voice. "Elliot Stabler. Late forties. Works as a Detective at NYPD's Law and Order: Special Victims Unit."
"You worked at SVU?" Emily Prentiss asked.
"You lived in New York?" Reid asked.
"Not now." Hotch spoke as he looked up at Meghan. "I'm sorry for your loss, Ross but this isn't a time to mourn. Do you think you can handle this case?"
Meghan frowned. "I'm not mourning. I barely knew Kathy. And of course I can work this case!"
Everyone exchange glances again before nodding and standing up to go home and pack their bags. They say another farewell to each other before they meet again at the airport. Meghan called for a taxi instead of walking home like the usual. She didn't want to stall by talking to Spencer. She felt bad for being rude but she didn't want him to ask questions about their new case. She knew he would ask about her past with Elliot Stabler but she knew he was gonna find out by meeting him in the next day or so.
Later...
On the plane, everyone was planning their tactics on how they would hit this case.
"How did the victim die?"
"Head trauma and her neck was snapped."
"What?" Garcia asked from the screen she was looking in from Skype.
"That's a old fashion way from the army." Meghan explained as she stood. "Morgan could I borrow you as a dummy for a second?"
Derek Morgan shrugs and stands in front of Meghan as her hands move to his face.
"It's an old technique the Army used if they were weapon less. They would come up from behind, putting their victim in a headlock-"
She did this as she placed Morgan in a harmless headlock as an example.
