Chapter Two

Ashley couldn’t believe what he was seeing. It was the boy he’d seen in his vision. He was older than he was in his vision but Ashley could tell it was the same person despite him being taller and some what more muscular than he was. As if he could sense Ashley staring at him, he turned his head and scanned the room before him until his eyes landed on him. Ashley felt as if something had pulled the guy’s attention towards him and only him.

No, it was as if he could feel something drawing him to the person. Both stared at each other, looking up and down at each other. Each one studying one another, trying to understand what was making them feel this strange pull. The boy pulled his attention away from him as the teacher asked who he was.

With the distraction, Ashley pulled out his phone.

You won’t believe who just walked into my class.

Who is it? A hot girl?

The guy who was in my vision!!!

No freakin way!

Way. TTYL after school.

My place or ur’s?

Neither. The park?

I’m there!!!

Ashley quickly put his phone away just as the teacher began to introduce the  new guy to the class.

Rhydian stepped through the door just as the bell for class rung. He stopped at the teacher’s desk and waited for the teacher. Then he felt it. A strange magical pull towards someone in the room. He slowly began looking through the room, opening his magical aura to the pull he felt. His eyes fell on a young man with mousy brown hair cut in an undercut hairstyle, short on the sides and longer on the top with a wave at the front.

He could tell that the guy knew who he was. Or at least, knew that he’d recognize him despite Rhydian not knowing who he was. He felt a tap on his shoulder, pulling his attention away from the guy.

“What do you want?” replied the teacher in an irritated tone. Rhydian handed him the note he was given at the school’s office. Mainly the principal and his guidance counselor. His teacher looked at it and then went to his computer. A minute later, he looked back up at him. “New kid huh? Where you from?”

    “Ireland, sir.”

“Yikes. Might need to work on toning down your accent there. Or people will have a hard time understanding you.” replied his teacher as his attitude softened. “If you have any trouble adjusting or anyone gives you a hard time, come to me. i’ll help you in anyway I can.”

    “Yes sir.” Nodded Rhydian.

“And polite too.” chuckled the teacher. “I suppose they have a different way of teaching schools where you come from.”

“No sir. It's the same there as it is here. I was raised to respect my elders.”

At that his teacher let out a laugh. “I don't look that old do I?”

“No sir, you don’t. i come from a small village town and all the kids there are raised to always listen to others who are older in wisdom.”

His teacher shook his head as if he didn’t understand what he was saying. But at the same time, Rhydian could also tell that his teacher understood his ways. “Well off you go now. You can have one of the empty seats in the back. Listen up class, we have a new student name Rhydian… what was your last name again?”

“Mailin, sir.” Some of the students snickered at the mention of his last name while others snickered because of his accent. Rhydian remembered one of his grandfather’s teachings, people make fun of things they are afraid of or do not understand and in some ways, choose to ignore. He went to his desk without comment.

“This is our new student, Rhydian Mailin. He joins us all the way from Ireland. And don’t think I didnt hear some of the snickering. There will be no name calling or the like in my class. Other wise, I will give you extra homework to do over the weekends for a month. Got it?” The room went silent as the teacher began his class.

Rhydian was pulling out his text book when the pain hit him in the chest. he dropped the book and clutched the spot of the stab wound. The boy he had saw earlier, leaned toward him in concern. “Hey, are you okay?”

Being thankful the pain wasn’t bad enough to where he was unable to speak, he shook his head. “Yeah, I’m all right. I was in an accident a few years back. And I have a piece of metal stuck in me chest and on occasion it gives me trouble. Nothing can be done about it.” It was a story he was told to tell others when they had asked what was going on.

“Need to see the nurse?”

“Nothing she can do either.” replied Rhydian as he bent over to pick up his text book. Willing the pain to go away but unable to do so. Once again he would have to let the pain go away on its own. “At this point it's bearable enough for me to focus.”

“It gets worse?!?!”

Rhydian bowed his head a little in answer to the guy’s questioning. “It does. Sometimes it’s so powerful, it causes me to black out.”

“Does the school know about this?”

“They do. Grandfather told them of this. He instructed them to take me to the nurses station and allow it to pass. Giving me time to rest.” Rhydian shifted in his chair. Even though he was used to explaining this to everyone, he was still somewhat uncomfortable speaking about it. After all, what had caused his pain was part of a plan to get even with his grandfather for something he’d done years before his birth. His grandfather never truly shared that part of his past with him while he recovered on Tir Na Nog.

“Wow, thats harsh. What do you do if you're in public when that happens?”

Rhydian shrugged. “Don’t know. I don’t go out much because of it. When I do, it’s always with grandfather. And so far, the pain never strikes then.”

“One more thing and I’ll leave you alone.”

“Yes?”

“The name’s Ashley.” he held out his hand to Rhydian. “Ashley Harrison. I hope we can be friends.”

Rhydian smiled and shook his hand. “Of course, you already know mine and I would love to be your friend.” At that his pain eased a bit. As if it had sensed Ashley was able to take away the scar on his chest. Which he knew it was wrong to think that. His pain and scar would remain and be part of him for the rest of his life.
