Chapter 4

Rhydian slowly began to wake as he heard hushed voices coming from somewhere in the room. Finding the strength to lift his head up, he saw his grandfather speaking with Father Abraham in the corner of the room opposite of him. As he  became more aware of the surrounding area, he could see that he was carried into the main living room, connecting to the kitchen.

He tried to remember how he got from the kitchen to there. But the only thing he could remember was the pain he’d felt before passing out. He groaned out in frustration of having, yet, another episode of the Blood Blade he’d received just a few years ago. He must have made a noise because his grandfather was at his side in what seemed to be in a blink of an eye to him. But he shrugged it off as him being still weak from his episode.

Father Abraham was standing next to his grandfather who sat down, gently, on the couch by his legs. Father Abraham looked like he could kill someone as he looked on. His grandfather gave him a smile that didn’t reach his eyes. Rhydian knew the look all too well. he gave it to him after every one of his episodes.

“How are you feeling, little one?” Asked his grandfather.

“Like I was hit by a ball bat and dropped from London Tower five or six times.” Rhydian croaked out. He wanted to sit up but knew it would be useless as he would still be weak. He noticed Father Abraham was gone from the room. “Where’s Father Abraham?”

“He went to get you some water. Can you get up or do you need to rest a while longer?”

“Rest. It seems to take me longer and longer to get over these episodes.”

“Yes, it does seem that way. But that’s how it is when you come back to consciousness.” replied his grandfather as Father Abraham returned with a glass of water. Still looking grim as he did before. “This time you came around must quicker than the last time. Last time, you were out for three hours. This time, only an half hour.”

“I wonder if that is good or bad?” His grandfather helped lift his head up so he could take a better drink of the water. It felt cool and good to his throat. he drank faster than he needed too and choked on it. His grandfather quickly pulled the glass away from him as he coughed and sputtered the water out.

“Rhydian, you know you need to take it slow.” Grumbled his grandfather.

“Couldn’t help it. It felt so good.”

“Will you need any help getting him to his room, Chedric?” father Abraham asked.

“No a bit more rest here and I’ll help him up stairs.”

“I’ll be on my way then. Call me if you need anything, old friend.”

His grandfather nodded as father Abraham continued. “It was nice meeting you, Rhydian. rest up and get to feeling better soon.”

“Thanks and be safe.” Replied Rhydian after taking another sip of water. This time without the aid of his grandfather holding his head. By the time, Father Abraham had closed the front door, Rhydian was feeling a bit stronger.

In the middle of doing his homework, Ashley had a sense of urgency. He felt a great worry that he had never felt before. Without thinking, he got up and walked over to window of his room and looked out of it. He had these feelings before when he felt that a person was in trouble. But never this strong. Immediately he felt a pulling to something. No, to someone. Right away, he knew where he had to go and he absolutely knew where he was going. Rhydian was in trouble and he suspected what this sense of urgency and the drawing he felt was about. Rhydian was in pain from the wound hed received years before.
