"Donnie?"

He awoke to his brother standing in the doorway, looking concerned.

"I'll be up in 10 minutes." He said as he slowly lifted him self up.

"Do i need to take the girls to school this morning or are you going to?" The man asked.

"No it's fine, i can. You've been doing everything and i'm sorry about that," He said as he got up and looked for a t shirt, "Things have just been hard and-"

"Donnie, its fine. I understand, whatever you need i'll be here to help." The man assured him.

"Thanks Duncan, means a lot."

Duncan walked out of the room and closed the door, leaving Donnie alone.

He sat back down on his bed and took a deep breath,

Get it together.

He got dressed and brushed his teeth then walked out into the living room to see his daughters playing together.

"Morning daddy."

Donnie walked over to the girl and kissed her forehead, "Morning sweetie."

Next to the girl was a toddler, only about a year old.

Donnie picked her up, "Morning sunshine." He said as he smiled and gave her a kiss.

The baby began to giggle.

Donnie looked at his daughters, remembering their mother's features.

Both of the girls had blonde hair, like their mother.

Hearing his daughter giggle was like a snap back to reality. Even though things were absolute shit, there was still something to be happy about.

"Donnie, you gotta leave now or Emma's gonna be late." Duncan said as he was cleaning up with kitchen, that had food on every counter.

"Doesn't Lanie have to go to daycare today?" Donnie asked.

"I just remembered i have today off, i can watch her while you go to work."

Donnie sighed and put the toddler down, "Alright Em' let's go, tell your uncle dunc dunc bye."

The little girl ran to him and hugged him, "Bye duncy!" She mocked.

Duncan rolled his eyes, "Bye brat!"

Donnie and Emma walked out of the apartment and got into his car.

"Daddy?" Emma asked as she got into the backseat.

Donnie got into the car and began to drive, "Yes?"

"Where were you last night?"

Donnie's heart rate began to speed up, how could he explain to his daughter that he can't keep his self together? How was he supposed to explain to a 4 year old that he couldn't stand being the same house that her deceased mother once lived in, where they lived together.

"I stayed at work a little later, extra money." Donnie said.

Emma shrugged, "Oh. Uncle Dunc said you were out doing birthday shopping for Lanie."

"That too, after work i went to some stores. How was your night munchkin?" Donnie asked, trying to change the topic.

"It was okay. Me, uncle Dunc, and Lanie all watched The Lion King again last night, and we ordered pizza. It was fun, you would've had fun."

Donnie sighed, "I know, i'm gonna try to be home as much as possible."

Emma smiled, "Alright daddy."

She had the same small gap as her mother did, nothing made Donnie happier in the world than to see that gap.

Donnie walked Emma in the building, "Morning Laura." He said to the receptionist.

She had long black hair, and she wore glasses that were too small for her face. She was an old woman, and she was overweight as well.

"Morning Donnie, Emma." She said as a smile spread across her face.

"Good to see you here!" The woman said.

"Yeah, it's been a while. Have a good day Em' and be good." He said as he bent down and hugged the girl goodbye.

"I love you." Emma said before pulling away and walking to her class.

Donnie stood there, like a lost puppy.

I love you.

Those words, those three simple words, how could they mean so much?

Donnie felt like he couldn't breathe and quickly walked out of the building, only to walk out into rain. He struggled as he tried to catch his breath, the sound of the rain calmed him.

I never got a chance to tell her that.

I should've fucking said something.

Why didn't i tell her I loved her.
