I remember Edward once telling me that every snowflake is different. Each one has a different design, like my outfits, he'd said. He had picked out a dark blue tie for me that day.
"Beautifully unique," he described the tie, "like a snowflake."
"Much like you," I said, immediately turning red. "I mean, you are unique, Ed. I mean that in the best way possible. And thank you for helping me out."
"With the outfit?"
"With everything. For being here with me."
Now, as I look around me, I feel much like a snowflake- different and independent. Perhaps not as graceful or appealing as Ed had described, but definitely individual. Ivy is here occasionally, but her company doesn't satisfy the emptiness of knowing that Edward can't be with me.
Well, in the literal sense, he is. He's here- lifeless and frozen.
My footsteps echo throughout the empty club as I make my way towards him. Edward had previously been entirely surrounded by ice , but I thought that he'd be a better centerpiece if he just looked like a colored ice sculpture, form and all. Of course, this means that the club has to stay below freezing temperature to keep Ed cool.
I run my hand across the frozen figure's arm. His face is in a permanent state of panic, mouth open, pleading eyes, arms outstretched...
"Did you get the biscuits? A-And the sweater? I know how drafty these rooms are."
Memories are torturing me, preventing me from being fully victorious that I've won. I let out a cold breath and clutch at my thin shirt, regretting not wearing a sweater myself.
"Why are you being so kind?"
"Talking to you, these past months, I don't know how I would've gotten by otherwise."
I had said that because it was true. Tough times require company, such as I had with Ed Nygma.
He shot me, and got what he deserved. But I have nobody else to talk to now during lonely nights- this... green ice pop will have to do.
"Like the club, Ed? I'd say it's just your style. Cold, like your heart. Wonderful, wouldn't you say?" I tilt my head down with a chuckle, but almost disappointed to hear no response. Sadness suddenly overwhelms me.
"I'm sorry it had to come to this, Edward. We could've done great things together, you and I. I admit that The Iceberg Lounge can use some of your extra flair. I got my revenge, just like I said I would... And here you are, standing as a reminder to never let my heart open up to anyone ever again.
"You made me vulnerable and weak. I may have killed that wench you claimed to be in love with as a result of my feelings, but I almost got killed myself. And I can't risk that once more. So thank you, Ed. I loved you, and it's okay that you didn't love me back- because you taught me a lesson." I feel a tear roll down my cheek as I lift my hand towards Ed's face.
"I'm not totally sure if he can hear you," a voice says behind me, making me jump.
"How did you- What the hell, Freeze?!" I snap.
"I said-"
"I know what you said. Of course he can't hear me! He's dead."
"Well it's not like he can't be brought back," Freeze says.
"How would we do that, by hunting down Hugo Strange? No thank you. I don't have any interest in bringing Nygma back, anyways."
"All you have to do is let the ice melt at a slow and constant rate. Sure sounds like you want him back. Not that I was listening to your one-sided conversation, or anything."
I scoff and hurry out of the club. Hopefully a good night's sleep will clear my thoughts and help me move on. Although my thoughts are telling me otherwise- that moving on from this is not the way to go.
Bringing Ed back can mean a second chance. For both of us. As much as I despise him, how can I get by without him? Bringing him back would show Edward that I'd like to repair what we once had, now as evens.
Let me know if you like the story so far! I'm open to suggestions :D
-sorry about the messy writing, hopefully the rest will be better once it's not 2 am lmfao-
