Chapter 1

"Ben, they're going to find out who-what- you are if you don't stop this madness."

"I'll be fine, John- er, Martin. Don't worry about me."

"See, there you go. You just called me John." Martin sighed. "The press and the semi-fans may chock things like that up to just advertising the franchise, but the major fans, and the smarter people- not to mention the people who actually have the same power and want you out-" at this, Martin motioned his thumb over his shoulder, "- they are going to get interested, and they will find out."

"You worry too much." Ben said sheepishly, attempting at a joke. He knew the dangers of people finding out his shapeshifting powers, but sometimes he wanted someone to find out. He was glad he had Martin to share it with, but he still wanted to tell someone else. It was hard to keep this secret.

"And you don't worry enough." Martin said walking out of the room.

People think that Benedict Cumberbatch is just an everyday actor in this world. Just a normal person, like you and me, playing characters in sci-fi movies or fictional crime dramas.

They think he just plays 'characters.'

But they are wrong.

He is the characters he plays.

It may be hard to understand, but he is. There are a select few of intelligent people in our world that have discovers how to shapeshift, how to change into various people or things.

You wouldn't know, but very many people have figured out how to do this, and have passed on the knowledge to those they trust. Actors and actresses have used it to morph into their characters and the personalities they have. Sometimes, they inspire fanfiction, in a way. [;)]

But with this gift comes risks, like Martin said. The general public could find out and expose it, causing disastrous situations, in which tests are run on those who have the ability, or maybe many would try to do it themselves and be harmed, or the knowledge could fall into the wrong hands.

The people who have the ability are called shapeshifters, nicknames just 'the Shifters' for short. They and their ancestors have had the knowledge of shapeshifting for centuries. They all have to keep each other's secrets safe, or they will all be doomed.
