I opened my eyes a bit. I was lying down in soft green grass, with small daisies here and there. All I could see above me was a very bright blue sky, without any clouds. I leaned my head to the right: Lots of very tall trees. I turned my head to the left: Great. Even more trees. My mind was still slow from just waking up, and only then I suddenly realized that I was in the middle of a forest. Why had I fallen asleep in the woods? I tried to sit up, but my skull felt like someone had tried to saw into it.
Slowly, I straightened my back and sat up straight. Curious, and anxious at the same time, I looked around. I was in a very small, round field, not the one I knew, and this wasn’t at all the forest nearby school. There were other flowers here, and the major differences were the trees. I could sense their incredibly old lives all around me. It seemed as if they were watching me suspiciously. What was this place? It really was creeping me out.
I looked behind me, eager to see something that was in any way familiar, instead I saw a big rock with pure, cherry red blood trailing down the edge. I ran my hand through my hair carefully. I could feel the slimy, slippery substance on the right side of my head. Quickly, I pulled my hand back, it was bloodred now. What had happened to me?
Warily, I tried to stand up; my head throbbing so hard like someone trying to split it in two. With every step I took, I could literally feel my heart pounding as if wanted to break through my chest. I was terrified.
I tried calling for my mother. Even after all these years, I had still remembered her name. ‘Alynna! If you’re somewhere out there, please come and help me…’ I knew it was hopeless and extremely stupid, given that I hadn’t seen her since I was born, and I knew she couldn’t even hear me. I didn’t bother calling for my brother, since… Well, I guessed he didn’t care at all if I would’ve died there.
I was going out of my mind with questions: Where am I? Why am I here? How did I get here? Is this just a dream? No, I can feel that this is real. But what if something or someone walks out of those trees? What will they do? Will they kill me? Do I want to die? Why shouldn’t I just close my eyes and give up? There’s nobody left that would care if I died anyway... But there was something that held me back from surrendering to the pain. It had been there, at the back of my head, then, I suddenly realized:
it was the place where I hade been in my dreams. Was I still dreaming? I screamed as loud as I could, hoping to wake up, as I normally did. I fainted instead. The situation was too crazy and impossible. This can’t be real. It can’t.

I blinked. A round, small face with blue eyes and half-long blond, curly hair, was in front of me. I let out a shriek. Who is this? Why is he on top of me? And, most importantly: where the hell am I? He smiled happily at me and then shouted: ‘Frodo! Merry! She’s awake! Sam! Finally!’ He climbed off of me and I saw that he had been putting something on the side of my head, maybe some medicine? My head did still hurt, but it was a bit more durable now.
As I watched, three other people came walking towards me. They were very small, except for the one that had been on top of me and another guy with dark blonde, curly hair and blue eyes. They seemed best friends to me, the way they looked at each other. Then there was one with blonde hair and brown eyes, and he stood protectively in front of a dark-haired, blue-eyed boy. Although they were way smaller than I was, it seemed to me that they were a lot older than they looked like. All of them were actually full-grown men, I realized.
I looked around suspiciously. Why was I lying in a bed in the house of some strangers? I was in a small, round room. There was a window to my right, and as far as I could see, there were hills with beautiful green grass, all kinds of flowers with butterflies flying happily around them, while the warm, bright sun made it look like a scene from a fairytale. Then I looked a bit better and realised that the hills had doors in them. What kind of place has doors in hills?
