Life is hectic. So many chores to do.
We must be awake by 4 in the morning. We must. Or we shall be punished. Floss our teeth, bath until we are squeaky clean, wear our uniforms, comb our hair until its nice and tidy, have breakfast, put on our cleanest shoes and get off to school. Everything must be done. Those who don't follow the rules shall be punished.
Life is hectic.
Girls had to wear a gray shirt with a gray skirt. Boys had to wear a gray shirt with gray pants. Its mandatory. Everyone should have the same shades of gray. No one shall be different. Girls must have their hair till their shoulders. It must not be an inch longer or short. Boys should have their hair cut too. Anyone who doesn't follow the rules will be an outcast.
When I entered the school bus, Jamie who sat beside me asked,''You had your breakfast?'' ''Yeah.''
''Really?'' he looked at me and smirked. "Here, I have an extra pill."''Thanks." I looked around to check if anyone was looking and I swallowed the pill. Our staple diet were these pills that has everything present in a balanced meal. If we worked hard and did our duty for the society, we shall get these pills. Its a sort of payment.
''Hey, have you seen that new kid who just joined?" piped in Emilia. I looked around and I saw this kid. He has curly locks of red hair and a freckled face. Even though he was dressed the same, somehow he looked....different. The mistress didn't appear to like him either with the faces she made. Well she can't be blamed. Being different is after all not a good thing. I didn't realize that I was staring at him all this while and he was smiling at me.
Weird. People don't normally just smile at a stranger. He did seem to be weird.
'Careful now Clem. He seems weird. And you know how weird people are treated like.'' Jamie whispered. Even Emilia nodded. They had a point. We are taught that in school too. Weird is bad. Different is bad. Everybody is the same. There are no exceptions.
And that means I should stay away from him. Yeah, I should not talk to him.
