Josh
I'm pretty bummed that me and my mom were leaving Wisconsin. It was a great place but I did something there that we can't go back to. I don't like to think about it because I like to see the better things. Anyways my cat, Luna, and I sat in the back of my mom's hummer. I had my earbuds in listening to Matilda by Alt-J while petting my cat's soft fur. And she needs you, this is for Matilda. And she needs you this is for Mati..... I felt a tap on my leg. Quickly I took out my earbuds and looked over to my mom in the driver's seat. We were at a red light but we were the only ones on the road considering it was 4am.
"So here we are Josh, we're in New Jersey all we have is an hour to get to the new house." my mom said. The light turned green again and we were on our way.
''Cool" I replied. I really couldn't wait to see the new house.
"Josh...please this is a new place so... uh... please just..." she tried to continue but I cut her off. I knew what she was gonna say but it pisses me off. We went over this a hundred times. I hate talking about it because it brings back so much memories.
"Mom I get it I'm not gonna ruin your life here too." I rolled my eyes.
"You know what Josh, I'm sick off this!!!" she snapped. Oh boy here we go again. " I was just gonna say don't tell anybody anything, I don't need you to embarrass me again, you've already did enough.''
"What ever." I scoffed and put my earbuds back in. Now the song was at Halfway to Nowhere by Cheluo. My mom got like this sometimes. I don't blame her, she was stressed and it was my fault.
An hour later
I woke up to my Luna pawing at my chest. The car was parked. We must be at our new house. I quickly put my phone in my pocket and walked outside. My bare feet hit the ground. It felt rough, looking down I saw gravel. Our moving truck was parked by the curb and the moving people were bringing in boxes and furniture. Filled with curiosity I ran in the house and started to explore. Every room was filled with boxes. The kitchen was pretty big and so was the living room. The basement looked like my mom was gonna make an office out of it, due to boxes named 'OFFICE'. I went all the way upstairs and looked around. There were two bathrooms and three bedrooms. The one at the end of the hall was mines, boxes were labeled 'JOSH'.
I went back down to the kitchen and saw my mom. She smiled at me, I knew she was trying to apologize. But she never did it directly. You know like she never says 'I'm sorry'.
"Oh Josh there you are, listen sweetie it has been a long trip so just relax for the day and start fresh tomorrow." she smiled. Honestly I really hated when she did this too. But I was pretty cramped up and tired so I took the offer.
I walked outside into the brisk cold. It was a good thing I was wearing a jacket and sweatpants. Climbing on the top of my mother's Hummer my cat followed. It was 5:30 right now but I didn't feel like listening to music. So I just sat and thought. I thought what my new life was gonna be like. What school I was going to, who I was gonna meet, how much fun it's gonna be here. But then my mind wandered to what happened in Wisconsin. How everything started and why I am here. And why it's my fault. Abruptly in my thoughts Luna meowed jumped up from my lap and hid behind me. I looked up to see a boy about my age with a uniform and a book bag. His skin was so pale, like he was almost clear glass. Sickly almost. He looked like he was walking to school. He stopped walking and turned to me. Our eyes met. My brown eyes met his drowsy looking ones. Maybe he can be my friend. I smiled at him and Luna jumped up on my shoulder and to my lap. The boy looked a bit scared, he turned away and started on his way again. What a interesting looking guy, hopefully we'll meet again. You know what next time I see him I'll introduce myself. Yeah.
My stomach growled, I decided to go to the kitchen to see if I can unbox a doughnut or something. When I got to the kitchen I heard my mom on the phone with someone. I wanted to be nosey so I listened in.
"Alright father thank you very much, I appreciate it alright yeah goodbye." who was my mom talking to. Father? My mom doesn't go to church. As I sat there thinking my mom ran into me.
"Oh Josh I didn't see you there!" she exclaimed.
"Who were you talking to?" I asked curiosity getting the best of me.
"Oh that was Father Simon your new principle." she answered me. I gave her a questioning look. "Ugh silly, you're going to Saint Lewis High school and yes I know it's a Catholic school but I swear you'll make friends there."
Oh man a Catholic school, this sure is gonna be different from a usual public school. I walked away from her and found a jelly doughnut. I ran up to my room, on one side of the wall was a glass door to a balcony . I decided to sit by the door and look outside, I didn't feel like going out there. I switched my focus from the trees outside to the glass door itself. Clear glass, just like that boy. Clear glass.
