"I'm leaving for war in Troy," were the words that ended my life. Nothing could have save me from the despair that I felt once the words were spoken from Odysseus' mouth. What if he were to die?
"Oh love, you can't! We've just been born a child!" I cry.
"I know dear, and I hate to leave this suffering upon you, but it's something I can't get out of," he said as he attempted to comfort me, while wiping a stray tear from my eye. Damn these tears, I thought, as I tried to contain myself from becoming a blubbering fool at this precise moment. I couldn't break down in public. I couldn't... I wouldn't.
"No... noo... noo... This mustn't be. I'll die without you," I said not believing a word that he was saying. Why would this be happening to us? To our family. Why now? He gave my lips a soft, but firm peak before saying, "This you mustn't do. You have a son to care for and a country to rule as I forsake my home. Please fulfill my dearest dream that you shall continue to live, if I...."He wasn't able to finish his sentence, as I pressed my lips against his, stopping him mid-sentence to keep him from uttering another word. I couldn't bear to hear him finish that thought.
"Promise me, my dear Odysseus that you shall return to me and your child. That you will do everything within your being to come back. Pleasee," I begged, not knowing what else to do or say.
"I promise."
