Chapter Thirty-Eight: Handling Cupid.

"Kailee, what did you do?" Lena asked, shutting her locker rather harshly as she continued to stare at me in astonishment.

"Whatever do you mean?" I asked in a sickly sweet voice, now leaning against my locker, books in hand. She continued to glare at me, making me squirm under her gaze. I raised my hands up in surrender, "Okay! I may or may not have told Klaus that I wanted to talk to him in the halls and said the same thing to Cole and now both of them are gonna meet up and talk to recover the tension and—it's nothing major."

I took a deep breath, recovering myself from my speedy sentence as my best friend continued to stare dubiously at me.

"You do realize they're both gonna be super pissed once they find out you lied to them?" She asked with a sigh, now walking as I stepped in tow with her.

"Well, yes," I dragged on, "But, come on. The way Cole spoke about him earlier at the museum—it was so obvious that he likes my twin as more than just a friend."

"Maybe," She shrugged, an implacable wince in her tone, "But, Kailee, Klaus isn't—"

At that moment, the entire hallway moved apart at the sound of Cole Hudson's booming voice, "Kai—freaking—lee!"

"Oh, dear God." Lena muttered, now pushing me aside as Klaus appeared at the other end of the hallway.

"Kailee, what is he doing here?" Klaus asked, now walking towards me.

"No, what are you doing here?" Cole hissed, pointing at Klaus accusingly as he stood still.

Klaus stared at him.

"I thought I made it clear when—"

"Why can't you just shut up?" Klaus asked with a huff, cutting Cole off as he immediately picked up his feet and walked towards him.

I could only stare in pure amazement as Klaus grabbed Cole by his collar, and smashed his lips on his, causing a few murmurs and gasps to erupt along the hall.

I parted my lips, the books lazily hanging in my hands as their spontaneous kiss continued, Cole's hands already making their way to my brother's hair.

I then noticed Theo standing a few feet behind his best friend, staring with the familiar face of complete shock.

As the two pulled apart, the entire hallways stared to applaud their act. I enthusiastically joined in, while Lena nudged me.

"Klaus isn't what, Lena?" I asked, feeling a small smirk rise to my face.

She grumbled in response, now clapping along with the 'audience'.

After the whole Klaus-just-came-out-as-gay-by-kissing-Reyna's-victim-of-homophobia-thing, the school has been riveted by rumors and lies, all secretly discussing how they missed one of the most popular students who is on the football team and his sexuality.

It's been two days, and instead of discussing the whole Sasha-ordeal, or Holden and Adam's fights—the centre of attention had been on my brother and Cole.

"Well, this week has been interesting, don't you think?" Lena asked with a groan as she sat beside me in the cafeteria.

I nodded in response, gulping down my iced tea, "At least tomorrow's Friday!"

She stared blankly at me, "Seriously? After everything that's happened this week, you choose to think about that?"

I raised my hands defensively, "In my defense, I have been through some shit."

"We all have," She mumbled, now glancing at Klaus and Cole standing in the queue, "Does Cole know about your parents...?"

That's right: Lena knows about what went down with my parents, and how I'm staying with Theo at the moment, not to mention that awkward moment two days ago when I slept next to him.

I shrugged, "It's not my decision. Sure I trust Cole, but I figured Klaus needed to tell him that."

"Hey," Theo mumbled with a groan as he plopped down beside me, "Isn't this a sunny afternoon?"

I furrowed my brows, "What's gotten your boxers in a twist?"

"Nothing," He grumbled, now staring as the 'couple' made their way towards us, "You planned everything with them, didn't you?"

I tried not to laugh as the 'couple' got caught up with a few greedy students, "Whatever do you mean?"

"Trust me when I say she's lying," Lena poked in, "The girl managed to make them not mad for a lie!"

"I see my little cupcake's been naughty," Theo grinned, all traces of PMSing gone from his face, "And I could tell already. That smirk from across the hallway?"

"Happy Birthday, Morrison's!"

"Cole!" I groaned as the guy ruffled my hair, before taking a seat at the table.

Then, before I knew it, Lena and Theo had both burst, "Birthday?"

"You find out a lot with this guy," Cole motioned to a red-faced Klaus beside him, "So, what are you doing today?"

"I wasn't planning on telling anyone," I glared at Klaus, "And I didn't plan on doing anything—" My eyes squinted from the light bulbs on the four heads, "—And I still don't!"

"Aw, come on, sweetheart," Theo nudged me, "You didn't tell me it was your birthday, and that pains. The least you could do is let us take you out?"

For the first time since the incident, Klaus spoke to me, "What do you say, Kailee? Redhile's? It will be like old time's."

"I'm surprised you didn't come with Cole. You two seemed to be hitting it off lately." I commented once I saw the familiar silhouette of my twin walk up the grass of Redhile's.

"Well, we didn't exactly speak after you lied to the both of us—"

"I helped you, dumbass!" I rolled my eyes, while he stopped walking just outside the ice-cream shop.

"And I never got the chance to thank you," He sighed, rubbing the back of his neck, "Admittedly, I was a bit of an ass to Cole after you left with Theo—"

"You never did tell me what happened then, you know that?"

He sighed, shoving his hands into his pockets, "There was an almost-moment in the kitchen. Then, Mum came down and I freaked. I shoved him and said he was an 'acquaintance'."

"And you said you were a bit of an ass?" I asked, while he playfully punched me.

"You know what I mean, Kails," He laughed, "Now, Cole may be the one who helped me open up, but you, Kailee, you were the one who saw through the real me."

I parted my lips, "You being happy, Klaus. That's all I really need."

"Happy Birthday, sis." He smiled, engulfing me in a hug just as the booming voices of Theo, Lena and Cole neared us.

I grinned, "Happy Birthday, bro."

As the three made their way towards us, hugged it out, with Klaus and Cole throwing in the occasional kiss, (I may have choked back a fake gag), I could finally see through this for what I truly loved.

As us five made our way inside Redhile's, all laughs and fun, all stress gone, I knew that this would be one interesting night.
