A year later, to the day, Violet walked down the aisle towards the man she loved, the man who had waited so long for her. Despite the fact that the room was packed with people, at that moment, there was no one in the entire world but just the two of them.
Later, when asked what she remembered about the ceremony, Violet said truthfully that she couldn't recall a single word anyone spoke throughout the whole thing. All she remembered was holding Arin's hand and looking into his eyes as he looked back at her and they said silent I love yous to each other. (But she didn't tell anyone about that, not even Kaysey.)
During the reception, as everyone was eating and laughing and talking about the day, Arin announced that there was something he wanted to say. The people fell silent and looked at him expectantly as he thought for a moment or two.
"No matter who the happy couple is," he began at last, "the journey to get to this point, that Violet and I are at, is always a long and hard one. But for some, it's...longer and harder than for others. Ours was no exception." He looked down at Violet. "In fact-most of you will never know just how long and hard it was for us." He paused.
"But it is a journey I do not regret making in the least. To be perfectly honest with you, I wouldn't trade it-or her-for the world." He sat down, and taking Violet's hand, gave her a smile. There was a brief silence, then the crowd broke into cheers. Once the noise died down most of the way, Violet stood, and everyone fell silent again.
"Arin was just talking about-how long and hard of a journey it's been so far," she said. "Well, I'm sure those of you who are married could tell us that there's a longer and harder one ahead of us. But I will tell you that there is absolutely no one I would rather go on that journey with-than the man who is sitting right next to me."
