I went in the building through the back way.
Taking the elevator to his floor, my heart pounded just like it did on the day I received my promotion. Simpler times.
Opening his door, I headed in.
There he sat at his desk. Suit and tie. Hair wild as ever.
"Since the cats out of the bag, I'll need to make a statement to the public. I think this will actually be an appeal to the public. Think about Keith you and I. At the top of the business world togeth-"
"Eugene."I peered at him teary eyed.
"We can't be together. I'm sorry."
Eugene was flabbergasted.
"With Becky-I can't and-I-"
"Leave."
"What?"I asked him.
"Leave!"
I dashed out of his office.
I heard something glass smashing on the floor.
It sounded like my heart.

I woke up on the couch the next day. Sunlight peeked through the blinds. The door bell rang. "Ugh."I groaned rolling of the furniture. Scrambling to the door, I opened it to no one. Then I spotted a bouquet of lilacs. I grabbed the flowers and put them on the table.
Snatching the note, I skimmed through it.
"Don't worry love, I'll win you back."
I rolled my eyes and threw the note away.
"Lilacs?"Becky said standing beside me.
"For you."I weakly smiled.
She grinned back and started to cook French toast.
"That was close."I thought to myself about the note.
Shrugging it off, I started to set the table.
Things were falling back into place.
For now at least.
