I hopped into my car and sped away from the burning church. Following the flashing the lights all the way to the hospital. Once I got there, I rushed into the emergency room. "Sir, is there something I can-"A nurse started.
"Get these two to the burn unit stat!"
I whipped around to Eugene and Becky being rolled into an elevator. The doors shut in front of my face. I glanced to my left spotting a stair well. Darting up the staircase, I reached the second floor which to my luck, where the burn unit was. "Excuse me sir? You can't be up here."A doctor came up to me. "I have two loved ones up here."I panted. "Ah, from the wedding?"He asked. I nodded. "I can lead you to your wife...Rebecca?"He said double checking his paper. "Yes that's her."
"Right this way."
I followed him into one of the many rooms. She laid still on the bed hooked up to a heart monitor. "Keith!"She half whispered. I cracked a crooked grin. "So she's gonna be alright?"I asked the doctor. "Yes, there are some burns on her back but, nothing to serve."He reassured. I squeezed her hand. "Hear that Bec?"I asked. She smiled.
"He's coding!"A voice shouted from down the hall. I shot up out of my position on the edge of the bed. "Eugene."I said. Becky's doctor ran out. "No! Either him or me! Choose right now!" Becky cried out catching my arm. Half way out the door I turned to her. "Becky I love you but, I'm in love with Eugene. I'm sorry."
Darting out the door, I sprinted towards a flock of doctors performing CPR on Eugene's still body. "C'mon."I muttered. Minutes past with nothing. "C'MON EUGENE DAMMIT!"I shouted. "You can't die-you just can't."I cried. "I chose you."
A large gasp came from the center of the crowd of medical staff. Eugene's eyes shot open. "You bastard."I laughed and cried. The doctors rolled him back to his room. I sat with him for almost an hour before someone spoke. "I ended it Eugene. I should've along time ago. I will always be sorry for that."I broke the silence. "Sorry for always acting like a douche."He chuckled before coughing.
"Keith before the building caught on fire I wanted to give you something."Eugene said fishing something out of his ashy tuxedo. "Eugene!"I shrieked spotting the engagement ring. "I know you are just coming off a relationship and you might need some time-"
"Of course!"I cheered engulfing him in a hug. "We probably need to wait quite sometime...considering you were almost barbecued."
We both laughed.
