I layer in bed the next morning. Kace didn't do anything beside mark me before he realized what he had done. What he has done.
After that he tried to make me feel guilty. Making it seem that all of it was all my fault. I wasn't about to stand for it. I had changed over the course of time. I wasn't the week pup I used to be.
I grabbed a bag and put clothes and stuffed them in a bag. I snuck downstairs and into the kitchen. Kace wasn't down here. I grabbed bottles of water and food that would take a long time to go bad. I snuck out the back door more determined than I have ever been.
Kace had already proven he was cruel. He had proved that by killing the few people that mattered to me. I knew I mattered to him. But I didn't feel guilty about leaving him.
He had proven time and time again I couldn't trust him. Every time he did something good he did something even worse than before. I was fed up.
I ignored the snag of the thorns on raspberry bushes. I ducked under branches and walked without even paying attention to where I was going. If Kace wanted to act selfish I could to.
After about ten minutes a deep howl pierced the air. I automatically knew who it belonged to.
Kace.
I sprinted through the woods. Thorns tearing into my skin as I ran. More howls joined Kace's. A sign that the whole pack knew I was gone. And they were looking for me.
Kace had the strongest pack at his command. I knew I would need help and I knew exactly who to turn to. Two good friends of mine who had a stronghold over the majority of rogues. These two could practically do anything and accomplish anything. Everyone who had ever been a rogue knew it.
No matter what, no one messed with these two. They were the toughest, strongest, fastest, persuading, and cunning. Kace wouldn't stand a chance against them to be honest. It they pleased they could overthrow all of the packs and rule but that's not how they work.
They prefer to remain rogues. They offer shelter to rogues in need. They also help anyone who pays the highest price. Which means they can turn on you in an instant. But the thing was they only would do that to people in packs. Rogues who agreed with them earned their loyalty.
I made my way into a deeper part of the woods where there place was. Even though it was huge it was invisible. They had magic protecting the place. Making it only visible to rogues they knew and rogues in need.
As the sun had started to set I had found there safe haven. I stepped over the boundary and saw the familiar site. It was beautiful actually. Thick green grass grew everywhere and was dotted with wildflowers. A stream ran through the outskirts and the houses were beautiful. They were made of dark oak wood and had dim lights that made the place feel welcoming.
I walked towards the biggest building knowing that was where they would be residing. I knocked twice on the large door. Shifting my weight as I heard the lock click and saw the handle turn.
I was greeted by a familiar face. Tan skin, thick brown hair, and grey eyes greeted me. Although he had a black mask covering his mouth and chin he still looked stunning. "Hello Emmie" he greeted his voice muffled by the cloth covering his mouth.
"Hello Oliver" I said giving him a hug. His strong arms wrapped around me back and he chuckled. "Come on in" he said once I pulled away. I followed him inside.
"Alex isn't here right now but she should be back soon" he said. He pulled the mask away from his face. I nodded.
Alex was the one who controlled the magic around here. She was strong but not as strong as Oliver. Although her magic made her practically untouchable.
Alex and Oliver were really close but they weren't mates. Neither planned to find their mate either. But I knew if they did find them though they would want to be with them.
"I need to talk to the both of you about something" I said. They needs to know about Kace. Not so they could protect me and themselves though. That's not what any of us would be even remotely afraid about. It was about the people who had made their home here. The ones who had families and the small children and innocent people.
After all Kace has done I wouldn't be surprised if he killed innocent children and took innocent lives. But he didn't know me as well as he thought he did either.
The group of rogues that had helped me when I got shot was actually Oliver and Alex. They were younger and so was I but they still knew a lot back then. I had lied because I knew telling Kace about them would put them in danger. These guys were my family and I couldn't let that happen. But I would hate to see what would happen if I stayed with Kace.
Me and Oliver caught up for a while. Turns out he had found his mate and they were mated. Her name was Kara and she was a rogue also. He was helping Alex heal her when they found out they were mates. She was even pregnant now. I was happy for him. Oliver was a good guy who deserved a loving mate and a family.
Alex walked in after Oliver finished telling me about Kara. Her silver eye and light blue eye showed her excitement as she saw me. Her eyes were beautiful on her to be totally honest. She ran up to me and we hugged.
"Hey Emmie" she said as she removed the mask from her face. "Hey Alex."
We all had nicknames for each other. Mine was Emmie and sometimes Em . Olivers was Ollie. Alex was just Alex because her real name was Alexia. Alex was her nickname and always has been. But sometimes she let us get away with calling her Al.
We spent time to catch up with each other like Oliver and I had. Except not a lot has changed about her. "I have a problem I need to talk you two about" I said as Alex pulled her curly blonde hair out of her ponytail.
They both turned to me and nodded.
"I've found my mate but he's not the person you wish your mate would be. You two know about my story about my aunt and sister. Turns out my mate was the one who had them killed. I eventually forgave him and he helped me and I helped him. We were on okay terms I guess but then he slept with someone. So I tried going for a run but he followed me and he marked me by force. So while he was asleep I ran away to here. It is the only place I have. Now he's looking for me. Actually he's the Alpha of my old pack."
The two listened the entire time. I could tell the whole ordeal made them livid. Both of there eyes were starting to turn black. "Whoever messes with our Emmeline has to go through us first" Oliver said. Alex nodded in agreement. "Whoever thinks they can mess with our Emmie has another thing coming" Alex said. "Were family. If you mess with one of us you mess with all of us" Oliver said. "You don't have to worry about a thing Em."
