[december 15, 1949]

"Просыпай девушку" A man ordered. Wake the girl. Another man pressed a button, and the glass surrounding the capsule retracted downward smoothly. Clouds of cold air billowed out as the ice cold temperature met the air from the room. A girl was rested in a chair, her eyes closed. her long red hair stuck to her face and her skin was pale. After a few moments, her brown eyes opened. She stared off into space, her eyes glassy as they tried to focus on something.

"Welcome back, m. We have an assignment for you." The girl's eyes moved to the man speaking. She was strapped in, so she couldn't move. "Compliance will be rewarded." He continued. She blinked, signaling that she understood. The bindings came undone but she remained against the chair for a moment. "Come down. i will prep you for the mission." the man said. She stepped out, her muscles weak and joints sore. The man watched the weak girl as she stretched out her hands. He began walking, and she followed him. They walked out of the dimly lit room and into a grey hallway. The girl clenched and relaxed her fists, feeling a familiar tingling sensation in them. "In here." The man said finally, as they stopped in front of a door the girl either hadn't seen before or didn't recognize.

The metal door opened to reveal a large room. It was dimly lit as well, and the walls, floor and ceiling were all the same dark, concrete grey as every other room the girl had seen in the facility.  The only object she saw was a metal table that was placed towards the back right corner, as if it had been shoved out of the way so the room could be used for other purposes. She scanned the room, but the table was all she saw. The metal door slammed shut behind them. The girl remained silent.

"Subject M. Take a seat." The man ordered as he dragged out a metal chair. Despite the fact that she was slightly hesitant, she obeyed the command. He began pacing in circles around the chair. "This is not an assignment for you, but more for another. He needs work, and you will be his apprentice, in a way. You two will get along and become one of HYDRAs deadliest teams, or you will be punished." She nodded slightly, wondering what the man was talking about. She had been taught that she was to work alone. However, she knew that she was to obey all orders. The man stopped pacing and stood in front of her. He tilted her face up to him. "Say something, subject M. I know something is on your mind." He said creepily. The girl thought for a moment.

"I will comply."

[time skip: 1 hour]

The girl sat on the cold metal chair for an hour, waiting obediently as the man went to retrieve the person he had mentioned before. She didn't move, she didn't speak, and she didn't dare use her powers because she didn't know who was watching or what they would do to her when they saw. Suddenly, the sound of metal clanging brought her attention back to the door, where a man dragged in a strong man with a metal arm. Subject M remained seated, her gaze empty of any emotion.

"Subject M. Meet the Winter Soldier. He will be training you." Subject M studied the man who would be training her. He clearly had been under HYDRAs control for a few years, and had been wiped and tortured many times. The Winter Soldier looked at Subject M. He saw a broken teenager who had been taken from her normal life, and he felt pity for her. He tried not to let the emotion show on his face. The man who had brought the soldier in looked at the two. "I want you to fight, so the Soldier knows how you fight." The girl and the soldier looked at each other. "M, use your gift." The man instructed.

M and the Winter Soldier stood across from each other, both in a fighting stance.

"Remember, you are not fighting to kill." The man said, and a flash of fear struck the girl as she realized who she was going up against. But then she remembered what she could do, and she pushed her fears away. Meanwhile, The Soldier was slightly uncomfortable because he was afraid of what he might do to the girl. "Begin." The man said.

The girl's eyes turned red and her face flushed. Fire danced at her fingertips, then she held her hands towards the floor and created a low wall of fire. The soldier lept over it, swinging his metal arm. She dodged the punch, and allowed another flame to dance on her palm. Her red eyes remained on the soldier as he stepped away from the flame in her hand, but grabbed her other wrist and flipped her over. Subject M jumped back up and kicked him, then grabbed his right wrist with her hand. He ripped it out of her grasp, a burn wrapped around his wrist. A slight smell of singed hair filled the air. The soldier fought hard, but subject M fought harder. She knew he was better than her, which meant she had to put in more effort. Where she lacked strength and skill she made up for with her powers. Her eyes flickered from blue to red and her external temperature dropped and rose as she played with fire and ice, making them work together in harmony to help her reach her goal.

She didn't know how long they fought. She focused on her powers and her attacker. Finally, she began to become tired. The soldier seemed to be slightly out of breath, but not as much as she was. She dodged more punches, and burned and froze things a little longer, but eventually, she collapsed on the ground, exhausted.

"Enough." The man observing said. The girl used every ounce of strength left in her to stand up. The girl and the Winter Soldier stood in front of the man, waiting. "Seventy five minutes of non-stop fighting. I must say, I'm impressed, M. I didn't think you had it in you. However, that was just the beginning. Training will be extremely rigorous." He said, pacing in front of them. M looked at the soldier, then at the man. "Will you comply?" He asked, a hint of venom in his tone.

Emotionlessly, the girl replied, "I will comply."
