Skylar's POV
Ok, wait, hold up!! Time out!! Ex, as in ex-girlfriend? When did my life become so messed up? Of course the only guy I ever liked would murder his ex, my luck's as good as ever. Wait, oh my God. I like him. No, no, no, not now! I refuse to like a murderer. Those eyes though... NO!! Concentrate on what's important right now.
— Skylar? Skylar, hey— said Marc grabbing my attention— I asked you something.
— Oh. Umm, sorry. I didn't hear you, what's the matter?
— Well, you didn't talk ever since your fight with Noah. Are you ok?— he asked sweetly.
" Oh yeah, I'm perfect. I like a murderer, but that's ok. That's fine, really... Yeah."
I wanted to give him that sarcastic answer, but I would only make it worse. No one was in the mood for sarcastic jokes.
— Yeah, I'm fine. I just have a lot of things on my mind.— I decided to answer.
In my defense, that wasn't a complete lie. I did have a lot in my mind recently. Running from the law with a bunch of guys wasn't really on my "top 10 to do list". I just wanted to find my friend, but ever since I discovered the lies our Government had been telling us, I couldn't just sit and do nothing. Of course finding Brooklyn was my priority.
I had been so lost in thought, I didn't even notice that Amber was still looking at Zac, as if she was waiting for an explanation. He still looked a bit pale, but he had recovered from the shock.
— So, what's your excuse?— she asked— That is, if you even have one.
Zac looked at her with an overwhelming sadness. He looked so broken that I couldn't help hugging him. He looked at me, surprised.
— Hey, don't worry. I don't know what happened, but take it easy— I said.
He looked at me and I smiled at him. He smiled back and took a deep breath.
— Victoire was- was.. everything to me. We met at some bar while I was waiting for the guys to tell me the plans for the next attack, we were confident that that was our chance and that we would win. Then, she came. She was a waitress, and very funny, I never thought she would become so close to me. We began to spend time together and eventually, after 1 whole year, I said I loved her. When she said it back, I began to tell her all about our plans. She supported us and even helped us.
— One year? — asked Amber— That's when Victoire started to act strange.
After she said that, Zac had a pained expression on his face. I wasn't much better either. After he started talking about Victoire, I couldn't help but feel a bit sad. No one ever talked about me like that, ever. And of course, I wanted him to be the one that talked about me in that way, but after thinking about that I felt disgusted with myself.
"He just barely got over his ex, which is a very sore subject for him. Don't make it worse, for his sake. Yeah, just be his friend."
— Go on Zac— I said while patting his back and giving him a supportive smile. He smiled back. And, for now, that was enough.
— I kept telling Victoire not to get involved but she begged and pleaded. Eventually, I accepted. That was the worst mistake I ever made. Don't get me wrong, she was great at following orders and making plans, but she wanted to do more. It was never enough for her.— he paused for a second and then continued — Finally, the night we had been waiting for had arrived. We were certain that that was going to be the night we would win against the Government. Everything went wrong, we were caught. They threatened to kill us, Victoire wasn't afraid. She kept calling them names and insulting them. After one hour, they took her. I never saw her again. I never got to say goodbye, they just killed her.
