The sunlight bathed my skin as I lay on my side. I tried closing my eyes again trying to slip back into oblivion but with my eyes closed tight and my head pounding from last night, there was no way to lay and relax so that sleep would once again find me.

I gave up, pulling myself up with my eyes still shut avoiding the tapping sunlight against my face. My mind was fuzzy, the last remnants of last night rushing through my mind. With a mental sigh, I allow my brain to focus and cautiously open my eyes meeting the waking yet annoying sun rays. I reached to grab my phone and quickly tapped Ava's number, ignoring the missed calls and unseen texts filling my notifications panel.

"Where the hell did you go, last night?" was the first thing that came through the line.

"Seriously, Ava. I am really not in the mood to talk about anything now." I said, my voice coming out low and raspy. "Especially, last night." I added in, finally removing my bed covers off my body.

"Fine." She mumbled and then huffed. I could picture her rolling her eyes on the other side of the line.

"So, are you going to college today or are you skipping?"She spoke again a few seconds later as I got up off my bed, trying to balance on my feet, my headache still nagging.

"I am not sure as my head is pounding and I can't really think straight."I replied, as I stood in front of my closet half awake, rubbing my eyes and searching for something to change into.

"Get dressed and I'll come pick you up." She demanded. "We can go grab some coffee so you can wake up and talk like a normal human being." She went on.

I mumbled an 'okay' and threw my phone on my bed, directing my attention back to the pile of clothes I have managed to make on my bedroom's floor.

Minutes later, I ended up grabbing a sun dress resting in the corner of my closet and quickly slipped into it, ignoring the mess I now had on the floor. I didn't bother brushing my hair and just splashed my face with cold water from my bathroom's tape and quickly headed downstairs.

The smell of omelette, my father's favorite, hit my nostrils as I came down the stairs and went into the dining room. My father sat at the end of our dining table, reading the newspaper, his eye glasses resting on the tip of his nose, as Melinda, our housekeeper, stood by his shoulder pouring some orange juice in a glass.

She noticed my presence as she raised her head, directing her attention to me as I headed towards her. "Good morning, sweetheart." She greeted me with a warm smile tugged at the corner of her mouth.

Melinda or 'Mindy' as I have always called her, had been our housekeeper since I was born as I can remember. I was always used to her presence in our house as I pretty much grew up and spent my whole life next to her. She was always there for me especially when my mother passed away. It was a hard time for both me and my father. And Mindy couldn't be any more caring or helpful as she stood by our sides as we were trying to pass that tough time.

I was only fifteen when she was gone and I definitely needed a shoulder to lean on. And it was Mindy who helped me stand on my feet once again. My father was really affected by my mother's death. He went through a tough phase trying to pull himself together after he had lost the love of his life so it wasn't easy for him to help me cope with my mother's death as he was having a hard time himself.

"Morning, Mindy."I finally replied a few seconds later, pulling myself out of my thoughts. My father's attention was now directed to me as I felt his eyes on me. He took another sip from his coffee and opened his mouth to speak.

"Ana, " He began, "Come sit down. We need to talk." He addressed, his voice tone firm and serious as he took his eye glasses off, resting them on top of his now folded newspaper.
