Above: CassielI wake up in the dark. My head throbs and it feels as though I have a weird and different form of a hangover. I try to filter through my mind to see what happened.
"Your angel tried to take over. It recognized me, and that was it's own attempt to show me it was still alive and well," a familiar voice says. I look around quickly as I sit up in a defensive position, not quite recognizing the voice.
"Cassiel? Why are you still here?" He flips the light switch and steps into view. He is wearing a black form-fitting t-shirt and loose jeans. My jaw drops.
"No! Why? How?" Cassiel shakes his head slowly. "This is only temporary," he starts. "Father is a little angry with me... but I am still an angel." He smiles as I sigh in relief.
I start to get up, a sign to mean strength. Cassiel comes over quickly and pushes my shoulder back. "Rest Mikell. You are very weak. Your angel drained you of everything. I will get you food and drink from somewhere," he says softly.
"Oh! Go to Lucy's! Ask for a White Chocolate Mocha... those are my favorite! And then ask for a blueberry donut... And here," I say, handing him twenty bucks and smiling in excitement.
His head tilts to the right. "Lucy's?" I nod fervently. "It is just two blocks... that way!" I point to the left of us as he nods in confusion. "I could go to show you the-" He shakes his head violently as he yells out, "No!"
"I want you to stay here and rest. You have been through a lot. Your angel, again, drained almost everything out of you," he says softly as he takes a deep breath. I sober up. "Did I-" I start. "Did I hurt anybody?"
My face turns to one of sadness as Cassiel inhaled sharply. Immediately, tears begin to fall. What have I done? I think. I'm a monster. Cassiel places his hand gently on my shoulder.
"Mikell, I got to you after you had it controlled... You hurt 10 men and women and three children... you killed only two adults, the rest are in the hospital," he whispers, so as not to hurt me.
"I'm a monster Cassiel. I just hurt people I care about, people I love... I hate myself for that," I say softly and quietly.
"Mikell... you cannot control your angel... it takes millennia to do so... but you can tell yourself that you are NOT a monster, okay? You are what is best of Fallen. You are the only one who hasn't abandoned God in the pursuit of other, Earthly things. So never say that you are a monster... You are nothing close," he states fiercely. The passion filling his voice makes me feel alive and energized.
I look into his golden eyes and kiss his forehead. I rest my cheek gently against his, a sign of thanks. Angels, now, are complicated creatures with very simple morals.
We would use this, though, as a sign of thanks if we were helped by angels or our Creator. I'm greeting, we would kiss each other's cheeks, a sense of divinity.
I wave him off, a sign he go now before I fall asleep. He cautiously walks out of my apartment. As he closes closed the door, I jump up and begin cleaning my messy home, knowing he would be a while.
While doing so, I place my Bible back where it originally stood, but not before gently placing a kiss on it's cover. I smile and hum "God's Not Dead" (I know, cliche, right?) to myself. I buzz about my apartment and in less than an hour, my apartment looks brand new.
A knock sounds through my apartment. Must be Cassiel, I think. I walk up to the door and say, "You don't have to knock you-" My eyes lock with a pair of bright blue eyes. I slam the door shut.
"No. Get away from me!" He knocks again. "Mikell," he says, his voice melodious. I cringe. "What do you want Gadriel?!" I can almost imagine the smirk on his face at my alarm.
"I just wanna talk, friend to friend!" A growl cuts through my throat. "You are NOT my friend! I told you it would go wrong! And it did, and now I have to deal with blame! What else is there to talk about Gadriel?! I told you to leave me alone 2,000 years ago, I meant it!"
The smile drops from his voice as he says, "I don't want to talk about that. And I'm sorry Mikell. I didn't think that we would harm you as well. Forgive me, please." My anger fades at his plead.
"Fine. Come in. But only talking, you make one wrong move and you never bother me again or come near me," I say as I slowly open the door.
His smile is warm and thankful. "Lucifer is-" I nod, showing I know. "Why did you come here Gadriel?" I sigh. He hangs his head. "I know I am a Fallen. I know I did some really bad stuff... but I want to ask for your forgiveness... and I want to help you in your battle with Lucifer."
My jaw drops and I stare at Gadriel. "Wait, let me get this straight," I say as my green eyes bore into his blue ones. "First, you want me to forgive you. Second, you want to take down your 'leader', or at least help me do that?"
He nods solemnly. "I knew you would probably say no to both... but I wanted to at least try." My head spins with this all-of-a-sudden change in Gadriel. I look up at him suspiciously.
"One question: How do I know you aren't just helping the enemy?"
