So Sudden

Chapter 3

Devan eyes moved back and forth from Joey to Talisha. Joey could tell that he was just as shocked that she didnt know he was joining them on their trip.

Talisha was always doing things like this. Joey tended to say no to everything but Talisha was the total opposite.. She had to try everything. She knew putting Joey on the spot was the only way to get her to do things outside of her comfort zone.

"Devan, can you take Joeys bag to the car? We'll be out in a second." He managed to lock eyes once more and began to pull the bags toward the car.

Joey knew it was more to just Devan coming along for the trip. Once the girls heard him open and close the door behind him, they began to walk down the hall.

"So, what's up bitch? You just sending random men in my house now," Talisha asked while she rubbed the arm she landed on.

"You remember the guy I met a couple months ago? We go out on Saturdays?

"Who, Chris?"

"No trick! Kevin... Chris and I go out on Fridays and Sundays," she said rolling her eyes.  Talisha had commitment issues and her love life was hard to keep up with.

"Ok Kevin.. What about him?,"she asked still tending to her arm. She had been so lost in Devan that she was just now feeling the pains from her fall.

"Well, I had mentioned to Kevin that we were taking a mini vacation to New Orleans to celebrate our anniversary. He then tells me that he and his brother were gonna stay in Memphis for a week just to get away." Talisha paused when the stepped into the Foyer.
"....so..."

"So, you thought it was a good idea to invite them along on our trip."

"Exactly!" Talisha exclaimed as they headed out the door.

"But why Talisha? You know how I feel about new people. Then you know you like these hoodlums. We don't have the same type and you know this," joey began began pouting as they walked down the steps that led to her driveway.

Talisha let out a long and loud exxagerated sigh and stopped at the bottom if the steps. "Gurllll, because, I'm not about to be cooped up in some room with you all week. Doing things we could've did here or Memphis. Devan is fine as hell and I'm sure if you not checking for him he will be okay."

Just as she finished, they started approaching a burnt orange 2017 Toyota Tundra Platinum. Joey's eyes brightened at the sight of it. She loved trucks. She owned a 2008 charcoal black Nissan Titan.. It was her favorite truck and as soon as she was able to purchase it, she did. She also had an all black 2017 Lexus LS the she only drove on special occasions.

Devan stepped out of the backseat of the truck and stood to the side. He was staring dead at Joey.

"Look bestfriend," Talisha said stepping I'm front of Talisha amd grabbing her hands like they were at the alter," I'm sorry I sprung this up on you. But in didn't tell you cause that would've been an automatic no. This way we're all happy. I'll have someone to run the streets with and you'll get to relax without me dragging you all up and down Bourbon street." Talisha began to make faces like she would cry if Joey was to stay mad. "Plus, who knows, you and Devan might hit it off, she whispered.

Joey looked at Devan then back at Talisha and shook her head. "I don't have time," Joey said as she approached the truck.

"You be ready to enjoy yourself boo," Devan said as he took her hand and helped her into the truck.

"Might as well be," she stated sarcastically while looking back at him.

Devan chuckled. "I see you're tough, huh," he asked rhetorically. "I can dig it and I like it, he said smiling showing all of his perfect white smile. Hearing his voice, looking at his  pretty teeth,and gazing at his smooth melanated skin cause Joey to smile.

"And she has a dimple, I think I'm in love bro."

Joey felt a rush of heat through her entire body..
