CHAPTER 2: (Jenna's POV) *PREVIOUS DAY*

 I was walking around the new neighborhood and decided to go farther to explore. I was walking into a local ice cream shop when I saw him. My mother told me that a Legen always has a mate. Sometimes they are human or werewolf-these are the most common. But the most rare mate pair is a Legen-Legen mated couple. Those who recieve another Legen as a mate is considered gifted from the fates.

 He was sitting in a booth surrounded by his friend and from what I can tell, his girlfriend too.

My heart dropped at the sight. She was Karly Anderson. From what I've heard from my brother, she was the most popular girl at Kingsly Knight High. And Jake was the most popular guy at the high. The perfect cliche couple... Karly was staring into Jake's eyes lovingly and from what I saw the look and feelings were mutual between the two.

 Jake's eyes wandered to me...our eyes locked and I felt pulled towards him. 'He is my mate!' I thought to myself. He suddenly got up from the table and walked towards me. His voice came out like music to my ear. I felt his hot breath down my neck as I looked up.

He whispered "I need to speak with you, in private"

My heart did a flip in my chest. He wanted to talk...to me...in private! He was probably going to tell me he knew we were mates and that he was going to break up with Karly to be with me. Little did I know, luck wasn't going to be on my side today. His words tore me in half.

"I don't know who you are but I want NOTHING to do with you. You are nothing but a stupid human to me. I don't want a mate like you. Your face is covered with pimples and sweat. You are worthless and ugly!" He spat in my face.

"But-" He cut me off.

"You are pathetic and weak, you are of no use to me. I am the most popular guy in this state and will NOT have my reputation ruined by someone of the likes of you. Leave my sight and never return. We will never be together and I can't believe the fates would curse me with you! I reject you Jenna Hurley. You are not my mate and never will be" As he was speaking his voice was raising, he was spitting with each word and he was shaking violently.

The tears were streaming freely down my face like a freaking tsunami wave. I felt so hurt and un-wanted. If my mate didn't want me then who did? I took off running out of the ice-cream shop back to my house and right into my mother.

We decided I would leave, with my brother.

(Jake's POV)         PRESENT DAY

I can't believe I would have to deal with a friggin human as a mate! A HUMAN!

"DO YOU WANT MY LIFE TO BE HORRIBLE?!" I screamed at the sky hoping and praying the fates could hear me.

She can't be my mate. She can't be my mate. I kept repeating this sentence over and over in my head and willing myself to believe it.

She can't be my mate. I tried again but failed, I can't have a human as a mate, she won't be protected in a world like mine. I'll just have to protect her by avoiding her. I felt bad about rejecting her though. Jenna's new and she's sweet and real...unlike Karly. Ugh why did I ask her out anyways? I don't know.

Well back to Jenna. How will she react if she found out what I was? God, I hope she stays here yet stays away from me so I can keep an eye on her... I can't believe this... SHE HAS ME CONTRADICTING MYSELF FOR GODS SAKES!!!!! I'll just have to stay away altogether.

'MATE! NEED MATE! GO TO MATE!!!' My wolf was bugging the crap out of me lately! I decided I was going to go for a run. I went to my backyard and shifted immediately, since we have 500 acres, I wouldn't have to worry about a human seeing me. My clothes were shredded, GREAT JUST GREAT. What? Why am I worried about clothes...UGH I SOUND LIKE A GIRL. I need to clear my head, and fast.

 But as I started running I found myself running in the direction of her scent. Oh well, might as well see what she's up too. As I was following Jenna's scent, it lead to the highway. The highway? What the hell? This girl is so weird, but I liked that about her.

She was my kind of weird.

She was my mate. *WAS* because I, rejected her.

The look of hurt was plastered across her face and is forever etched in my mind knowing that I caused my mate that hurt. *I* made her cry. *I* shattered her. But *I* was doing it to protect *her*

I'll just have to deal with that.

When I found her house, Jenna's scent was faint so I followed it and it lead to the main road and disappeared.

She left. No, correction.

She left me, where did she go?

A/N: So what did you think? I don't like how Jake is being personally but you know, boys are so confusing. You never know what they're thinking about.

So Karly is the 'queen bee' at Kingsly Knight High, she's with Jake but her intentions will be shown through in the next few chapters. I guess you could say that her and Karly are cliche, football captain+head cheerleader material but oh well.
