Wait! What?

The world shifts and I'm left standing in ... a ... cave, looking around me I realized that this isn't a standard cave. There are shelves cutting into the rock creating nice cubby holes layered with straw. There's something on the shelves ... wait! What? Is that? It looks like an ostrich egg but bigger and it's green, not white. Where am I? What is this place?

'Relax child'. I jerk falling to the side,

'Who's there? Who are you? Show yourselves', I start to panic, I need to leave. I have to get out of here, wherever here is and go home to dad.

'Calm yourself girl, I am not here to hurt you. I am the guardian of the eggs and it is my duty to protect them from the darkness.'

'Guardian of the Eggs! Are you fricking kidding me here? That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard.'

I chuckle to myself, this guy... oh god he's killing me, he really is. Guardian of the eggs, I mean what the fack.

'Anyway 'Guardian' what do you guard chicken eggs from the chicken thieves.'

'Do not mock me child. When I see you next you will be going through a ceremony for your dragon to choose you'

'D...Dr... Dragon'

That was the worst thing I could have said because at that precise moment the glowing started. A faint mesmerising glow and I am sorry to admit but it called to me like a moth to the flame and I the trusting 16 year old that I am went towards it. I followed around corners, through tunnels and faintly overheard two guardians.

'We need to stop her'

'We can't, remember jones that the dragon choses its rider and we cannot change its mind'

'But...'

'But no we can't do it'

'She is heading to the forbidden corner where the strongest and those with the most power lie, we cannot allow for a weak female to be chosen, males are warriors and we need warriors to save us'

'We cannot influence the Dragon'

I stop listening what an idiot I can do the thing that a man can do if not twice as better. What a chauvinistic idiot does he not realise that a man's weakness is a woman and that we can and will use that to our advantage in war.

I focus forward, and I realise that I have stopped moving and there in front of me was the most gorgeous egg you could ever imagine. It was blue but at the same time not, it was not a solid colour but throbbed with an inner flame. Blues swirled seeming almost alive dancing their way across the surface. The colours sapphire, denim, royal and navy all screaming out for me to touch... so I did. I bent forward reaching to stroke, touch and comfort the throbbing flame that I saw. The instant we touched ... a flash fire of sensation swept through me, colours danced across my eyes. My head screamed at me to let go and leave this defenceless egg ... but my heart, my heart won. I slumped forward intending to shield the egg from the pain I had to protect him. As I fell... I kept falling and falling.

I jumped up gasping wondering what the hell happened. I breathed deeply, calming my heart and my breathing down. I looked around thinking that I was in that cave; I looked for the beautiful egg only to find myself back on earth. In my room not in a cave, lying on my bed not on top of an egg trying to protect it.
