II. THE MONSTERS AT ORCHARD PARK
After lunch, Megan had a pretty decent day. The teachers were alright, the people were mediocre, and of course, it being the first day of school, the work wasn't very difficult. Much to her disappointment, there was still homework.
Although she has met some nice people, she was a little indignant that only one of her old friends had bothered to keep in touch with her during the summer. The rest seemed to forget that Megan existed.
"Hey, Megan!" Her eyes lit up at the mention of her name, searching for the speaker. It was Benny, who was of course was by the side of Ethan. She had walked right past both of them without noticing.
"Oh, hi!" said Megan, flustered. She slowed her pace to fall back next to them, glancing at Benny, until a near-empty trophy case behind him seized her attention. Taped onto the glass was a piece of paper with the words MISSING TEEN printed on it in bold lettering.
"Did you guys know someone went missing?" she asked, turning her head to face them.
"You didn't?" Ethan said as they walked out the front doors.
"Yeah, check it out; looks like they've found the rest of that missing senior."
"The rest?" Ethan and Megan echoed. She wrinkled her nose, imagining what horrific scene Benny could describe next.
"Yeah, says here he was all shriveled up. You know, kind of like this juice box!" Benny held up his juice box, accidentally squirting Ethan with orange juice when he squeezed it too tightly.
"I am so sorry, I didn't —"
"Dude!"
"It's probably karma," Megan guessed, suppressing the rude urge to giggle.
"Oh, bummer," said Benny, who has his eyes on something in front of them. "Looks like she's already hooked up with Mr. Too-Cool-For-School."
"You mean Sarah?" she questioned quietly, spotting the couple, just as the blond boy from earlier came out of nowhere from behind them.
"Somebody mention my name?" He looked at Megan curiously. "Who's this babe? Did one of you get a girlfriend?"
"I'm Megan, currently single." Her focus was still on Sarah and some creepy teen in all black, who were arguing. She couldn't really hear their conversation. Something about vampires?
"Dusk forever!" she heard Erica say, who was also apart of the scene before them, as she pumped her fist in the air. Her statement sounded more like a question.
"Something's not right about that drama club," Ethan observed.
Megan stared at the so-called drama club, a group of teenagers who wore mostly black, as Benny gazed dreamily at Erica.
"I'm so going to your house tonight." The way Benny said it made Megan feel something weird, and also slightly nauseous. Not a very good feeling, she decided, tugging on her sweater's sleeve. She realized what she was doing and abruptly stopped. That was a nervous tic of hers. Why was she nervous?
