V. NEST OF SOULS

Focusing on class proved to be difficult for Megan, as she spent the majority of her day at school worrying and moping. If there was anything she was good at, it would be unnecessarily getting worked up about unimportant things or something that was out of her control. This time around, it was the latter.

Rory and Erica hadn't been heard from since the party the other night. Of course, Megan asked her new friends (which was really only two-ish people) about the whereabouts of the blonds, but they were just as unaware as she was.

She never had enough time with Erica or Rory to get to really know them, and it was the same with Ethan, Benny, and Sarah. They were only acquaintances with her, but she was still easily concerned for them. After all, they were the few people at the school Megan thought she could create a long lasting friendship with. One that preferably didn't end with them leading her to a vampire party and ditching her.

"Thanks," said Megan to Ethan, crestfallen when she asked the question for the second and final time, only to receive the answer she was hoping not to get.

The hallway was mostly unoccupied, since school had just ended, leaving Ethan, Benny, and Megan with no issues with getting to the exit door.

The warm sun and cool breeze concocted a perfect atmosphere that even Megan, with her sour mood, couldn't help but admire. She felt some of her worry dissipate as the sun bathed her skin in light and warmth, but didn't completely forget about her troubles.

"Wazzup!" a voice called, whose owner was no other than Rory himself.

"Oh my god!" Megan tackled him into a relieved hug.

"Woah!" Rory yelped. Surprisingly, he held up fine even after she launched herself at him.

"You're alive! Is Erica —?" Megan looked around wildly after unlatching her arms from around Rory's neck.

Now that she had pulled away from him, she was able to get a better look at the boy. He was dressed in an garish outfit, with dark glasses obscuring most of his face. His hair was done weird, and a generous amount of sunscreen was applied to his nose. Even for Rory, it was strange.

Ethan blanched. "Rory, you're... we thought you were dead."

Rory began his explanation enthusiastically. "All I know is I woke up the morning after the party feeling awesome. No asthma, I don't need my glasses, and I barely have to sleep anymore. The only problem's the sun: kind of annoying." It didn't take long for the others to put two and two together. Her heart dropped, as well as the elated smile she wore.

Frowning, Benny asked, "You're a fledgling too?"

"Pfft. Heck no! I'm rocking the full-on vampire action, dude. The big V!" He made a V shape with his fingers proudly. "Can I get a what-what?"

"What?" said Ethan, who was getting more distressed by the second. "You drank human blood?"

"They said if they didn't, I'd die. All the other kids were doing it!" he added, after seeing their disgusted faces.

"Do you have any idea what you've just done to yourself?" said Benny.

"I'm immortal and all powerful, dude. Ka-chow!"
