A single tear tried it's best to escape, but I refused to cry over a boy, Even if it was Derrick dreamy eyes.
"I have a feeling that won't be the last you see of him." A gruff voice said from the hallway to the left of us.
It was the weird boy from earlier that had a perfume fetish.
"Hi-hi." He stuttered.
Lizzy stood up, "Listen, you seem cool, but like...you can't go sniffing random people you don't know. That's super weird."
He blushed and looked at the broach on her jacket, "Listen, I'm sorry but I needed to check."
"Check what?" I asked, taking a protective step in front of Lizzy.
"Is it true you two only have one parent? The other is absent?" He asked randomly off-topic.
Lizzy and I shared a look, "Yes." We provided him with no other information.
He seemed very excited suddenly, "Ok second question, have you ever perhaps seen something abnormal? Like a weird monster thing?"
I frowned, "Monster thing?"
"Yeah, particularly greek mythology based. Like freaky chicken people, giant black dogs, etc."
Greek mythology was very specific and those examples were very on point. My father taught me a lot about it growing up, stories about gods like Artemis, Apollo etc. Artemis was a common character in his stories, but hey, everyone had their favorites, I quite liked her too.
"Ermm I'm not sure, I don't think-" I glanced at Lizzy, asking her through my eyes if we should tell this strange boy about those few times we'd taken the bus and these freaky goat-chicken things attacked us.
She nodded, "There were a few times.-" She told him about the chicken things, the weird dog, the things we'd never dared tell anyone. But for some odd reason, we were being compelled to tell this boy. As if under some kind of trance, that was also besides the suspicious fact that he was very specific in what he asked.
He grinned and was about to say something when he stopped, he lifted his head and sniffed the air. What was up with this guy and sniffing?
Now he seemed a bit panicked, "We have to move. Now!"
"What? My dad is picking us up in like 2 minutes." I told him.
He shook his head and grabbed Lizzy's and I's hand, "Trust me, he'll understand. We need to leave now-" A loud growl was heard from the shadows of the forest.
Lizzy froze, "What the hell was that?"
I eyed the darkness, I narrowed my eyes, a dark figure became more clear. It looked like a giant... dog? And if that wasn't odd then then I don't know what was.
'Run Cassandra and don't look back.' A feminine voice said, the same comforting one that always advised me not to give the necklace my mother had given me away.
The dog met my eyes, I froze. Dark red flames of fury and evil bared its yellow teeth at me and howled. Fear gripped my senses, I did as the voice told me.
"Lizzy, run!" I grabbed her and the boy's arm before breaking into a sprint, dragging them with me as I crossed the street without waiting for the cars to passed. They hooted and screeched to a halt as we ran.
"Hey! Watch it kids!"
The boy bleated in fear. Wait...bleated? He sounded so much like a goat, I swear he bleated.
