I woke up to a distant sound of laughter and talking, and got up to see what it was all about. I unwrapped myself from the sleeping bag and ruffled my hair to make sure they weren't messed up. Lots of kids had already woken up and were sitting around the extinguished fire place because they had nothing better to do and most of us were still sleeping in our tents...or in my case a sleeping bag!
When I saw that there were no teachers up and telling us what to do, I dropped back in the sleeping bag and closed my eyes, not wanting to wake up again.
"Rise and shine everybody!" I heard an accent speak. An accent that I loved to hear. "First day of camp and you plan to blow it away by sleeping through it? Remember, if you keep sleeping we'll just carry on without you!"
"Yeah, Louis, we were just getting ready!" Haley's flirty voice rang through my ears and my head shot up.
bitch, stop talking to him! He's mine!
I watched her walk away and I pulled out of my sleeping bag, calming down. I suddenly looked to my right to find Louis looking at me. I froze in my pants....pajamas. But all he did was smile, nod, and walk off.
My insides were screaming!
Louis freaking Tomlinson passed me a smile!!
I had this automatic, uncontrollable smile on my face as I followed a line that was led by one of the trainers deeper into the trees.
It felt like hours of walking through the thick, long trees and the trainers or the prefects weren't telling us where we were going.
The typical me was standing, as always, at the end of the line, boring myself out. Why did I agree to come to this stupid camping thingy anyways?
"We seem to be a bit disturbed today?" I jumped at the sound of my new Irish friend surprising me from behind.
"Oh! Good morning!" I smiled, turning back to look at him but still moving forward.
"No, my morning wasn't good! Stop saying that!" he spoke and I gave out a slight laugh. "How come I always find you at the very end of the line?"
"Well....cause I don't like the front....people keep looking at you and it's weird! " I lied. He smiled and paced up to walk right next to me.
"Or is it because you were pushed back?" he smirked.
"When you know everything, why do you still ask?" I said bluntly, not meaning to.
He let out a laugh and stayed silent then, so did I. We finally reached to where we were supposed to go. It was a small lake and there were five canoes nicely lined at the bank.
Five boats and twenty children meant we were going in groups.....I didn't do quite well in groups.
I crossed my fingers and hoped that I wouldn't be grouped with Haley. And with that I also hoped I'd be able to be in Louis' group.
"Every one stand in one line and when I call your names out stand behind one of the five prefects." A trainer spoke.
The five prefects stood shoulder to shoulder.
Louis then two girls followed by another boy and in the last Harry.
It felt like ages when my turn finally came and the trainer pissed me off bad. "Jenna....um...you go with...Harry!"
I slumped my way to the line of four students standing behind Harry. I looked to the other lines to find Niall standing behind Louis and Haley standing behind Niall.
The five of us got in one boat and put on the life jackets placed on the plank. I didn't know anyone in my group and decided I'd stay quiet.
I closed my eyes as I felt the boat kick off in the water. Although it was very slow and it had just touched the water, I could feel the nausea creep up my body and breathed heavily and slowly while keeping my eyes closed. Yes. I was afraid.....really really afraid of water.
It wasn't like "oh my god! I'm afraid of water, I can't look at it or step in it or I'll die!" It was just that fear of going in that water and drowning. Drowning and knowing that no one would be there to save me and bring me back up. Now that doesn't mean I'm afraid of showers or baths or anything! But you can't blame me for worrying about my life!
I opened my eyes as the boat started sailing ahead.
"Each of you hold one of the oars and start paddling so we can move forward!" Harry ordered, "You have to be in sync or we'll never get anywhere!"
I gripped my hands on the huge and amazingly heavy oar and tried staying in sync with the person in front of me. But the problem was, the person in front of me had no freaking clue of what he was doing. I tried moving the oar but I didn't have much strength. After five minutes of trying and trying, I gave up and our canoe was way behind the others because none of us were in sync.
Harry was a bit frustrated and yet he kept his cool. He ruffled his hair in thought and then commanded us to move our oars when he asked. So whenever he said "right" I knew I had to move my oar.
Finally! We were getting somewhere.
I looked down at the water and was suddenly grasped into a whirl of thought. I don't know what I was thinking about or why I suddenly jumped into another world, but when I came back to my senses, I couldn't remember what I was thinking off.
"Right!" Harry snapped. I shook my head and moved the oar.
By this time we were in view of Louis's boat and I could see I wide smile on Niall's face as he waved to me. I waved back and focused on the paddling.
We were now, finally, right besides Louis's canoe and I didn't notice Niall was two meters away from me until he splashed water all over me. I sat in silence for a second, letting the freezing water run through my clothes. I ruffled my hair and making an effort, I swooped down to let my hands touch the water and felt the cold hit my knuckles and suddenly I backed up. I couldn't do it. It wasn't this bad before but now I couldn't touch the water for a long time. What?
"What happened? " Niall's smile faded.
"I can't do it..." I said, almost in a whisper.
Right then Louis hit his canoe purposely on ours, to mess with Harry and then Harry did the same. I was freaking out because I knew we all would fall into the water. We had life jackets on but I still couldn't take the risk.
"Have a little fun!" Niall screamed to me. I watched as Haley tried to stick to him although he was ignoring her.
"What if-" I stopped.
"What if what?" he asked. The boats hit again.
"What if I-" I was cut off by one of the trainers.
"Ok! bring your canoes back to shore!" He spoke through a microphone.
I didn't get to complete my sentence but I was glad when I got on land that Niall didn't know I was afraid of something like water!
