I would be lying if I say it was a normal , basic , typical dinner .Simply because we were sitting in an overly expensive chairs and we were cleaning our hands in a special kind of napkin that costs more than the sum of my clothes .
Also ,we had all the pleasure to stare at a chandelier which you can easily mortgage your house with . Actually , going to these kind of restaurants was far away from the interests of my family . And when I'm saying 'family' I'm talking about my mother and I . Full stop .
-'I hope you like the food .' Mr. Calloway interrupted my thoughts with a lame attempt to ease the pressure settling in the table .
-'Thank you Edward , it's such a great dinner .'
Mom replied genuinely while I just preferred to give a little smile to Edward Calloway whom I still cannot decide what position is taking in my mother's life . It's been a while since they were seeing each other as friends . But this night , they have decided it's time that me and Mr. Calloway's son have to know each other .That was exactly why I'm here failing miserably to cut a small piece of shrimp which I would eat in one bite without thinking twice if I was home . However , I can easily swear that the both of them are regretting their decision very badly .
Nathan Calloway , a good looking man probably in his late thirties , whilst staying next to his father , he looked a perfect copy of him . He can easily give a good first impression with the amount of charisma he has , except that he didn't . All what he was doing is sitting silently the whole time , checking his phone every ten seconds as if staying with us was killing him . Well , I didn't act a way better than him just for a simple reason : this hoping-to-be-only-friendship between mom and Edward Calloway isn't shaping up to be a great thing .
-'Did I mentioned that you and Nathan are in the same University ?' Edward directed his question to me , backing again to his trials .'It's strange how you don't know each other .'
-'The University is too big , I don't know almost half of the teachers .' I responded . Nathan turned his face giving me a strange look as if I was the most stupid girl in that place . Ok , maybe he was right but for a first eye contact , that was rude .
-'No' Edward denied between two little laughs. ' He studies there , like you .' He explained .
What ?
My eyes opened in surprise .
-'Are you still in University ? ... University like studying ?' I directed my question to Nathan. How on earth can a 30 years old man still be in University ?
-'Why shouldn't I ?' He asked with an arrogant tone that made my stomach turn .
-'I didn't mean anything .' His violent response pushed me to explain myself . 'It's just ... a man your age should already be having a job .'
-'Jules' Mom added but Nathan quickly interrupted her .
-'My age ?' He repeated with a sharp tone . ' I'm twenty two, girl ! Even if I started studying the day I was born I would not succeed getting a job this age .' He added mocking me .
Cool! You know one only has one chance to make a first impression and me, I got it to look that idiot.
How can he be twenty two ? Only twenty two ? It's not because he was a bit older than me but , God he has grey-white strands in his hair . It took me some time to fathom it .
-'Sorry anyway .' I managed to give them a little smile . 'I didn't knew that it's premature , you know ... the hair ... the white one ...'
Oh , I suck at that , I was no good at explaining myself or anything . I usually got verbal diarrhea whenever I was trying to have a coherent reasonable phrase .
