Comfort |ˈkʌm·fət | n.
The state of feeling better after feeling sad or worried, or something that makes you feel better.
I open my eyes to see a small campfire in front of me. I close them again and enjoy the warmth that flows over my body, but then I realize... Commander Welch, misses Parker. The whole night comes back to me in a split second. I shoot up straight and wish I hadn't done that. My head starts spinning and I feel nauseous.
'Well, well. The little princess has finally woken up.' I look around to see where the voice came from. Of course... It's my big old friend Welch. I give him a nasty look but he only laughs at it.
'Take me back to my brother this instant!' I yell at him.
'Or else? You can't order us around young lady, you would never stand a chance against us.' Welch answers.I look around, becoming aware of my surroundings. We're in a little open field, surrounded by trees. If I run fast enough I'd might make it to the trees before they can catch up on me. I decide to take my chances, I have nothing to lose anyway. I run away from the camp as fast as I can into the forest, but I don't come far. Suddenly a huge brown horse appears before me, his big brown eyes looking into my own. 'I told you you wouldn't stand a chance!' Welch shouts back from the camp as a soldier gets of the brown eyed horse and grabs my arms tightly.
I can't give up just yet. Eden needs me and as always Eden is my priority number one. So if I can't get away with actions then with words.
When I'm thrown down at the campfire Welch looks at me. He opens his mouth to say something, but I shut him up. 'Don't you have a family? A sibling you had to take care of? I'm the last family my brother has left! Don't you care about that?!' I scream at him feeling the tears burn behind my eyes. I hate crying, it shows you're vulnerable and I can't do that. Not here, not now...
Welch takes his time to answer my question. I regain some hope as I look at his face and see that I hit a string. He knows what I mean. He has someone too, someone who means the world to him.
'I only care about what the king cares about, and other people's families is not one of them...' He says but he doesn't dare to look me in the eyes while saying it.
It can't be that this man is so heartless... How could a person turn so cold? He must be lying, but I decide to figure that out later.
'Fine. Have it your way, be heartless. But I know for a fact that you can better love and be loved and have a weakness, than be alone and loveless.'
'Say what you want. But you're not going to get away from me. The king wants you, so I'm going to deliver you to him.'
He turns away from me as I stand there, stunned by his words. He walks over to another soldier and whispers something to him. When he's done the soldier walks towards me. I take a step back. And another one. And another one. But then I feel a tree behind my back and before I can go around the soldier has already gotten to me.
