It was around two hours after Cas finished his sandwich and milk when Sam had gotten him from his room and told him it was time to go. He had to admit, he was a little excited. This would be his first time going to a store that he (hopefully) wouldn't get kicked out of or have to steal anything from.
As Sam drove them, he stared out the window, taking in everything. This didn't look like his home...
He hoped he was at least in the same state and or town, but it was obvious he wasn't.
The car stopped and turned off, pulling Cas out of his thoughts. He looked over at Sam, who was unbuckling his seatbelt. He looked down and did the same. They got out the car and walked into the store.
"Alright, so I have someone coming over tonight, that you're going to meet by the way," Sam started as they walked through the store, Cas carrying the little basket on his arm. "So, we need to go to food...then possibly some wine," he muttered, thinking about the things he needed.
Cas was halfway paying attention to Sam. He was looking around the store, his curiosity peaking once again. He wanted to go explore, but figured Sam would get mad if he did.
They passed by an aisle that Cas noticed had different animal toys. His eyes landed on some kind of red cat toy and his ears perked up and eyes widened. He didn't know what it was, but he wanted it.
He suddenly slammed into someone in front of him and gasped quietly as he flew back on to the floor.
Sam gasped and quickly helped him back up. "I'm sorry, Cas!" He said as he looked Cas over. "Are you hurt?"
Cas shook his head and looked back down the aisle where the toy was. Sam furrowed his eyebrows and looked with him. "You...want a cat toy?" He asked, looking back at Cas.
Cas blushed and nodded, looking down at his feet.
Sam laughed softly and took the basket from him. "Go ahead. I'll be a couple of aisles over."
Cas nodded and they went their separate ways. He looked at the toy that he had spotted and picked it up. It was a small ball of yarn and he grinned upon noticing this. He held the toy close to him and started to go look for Sam.
He walked the path, looking down the aisles for Sam. He looked down one and saw a little girl on the floor, crying. He frowned and went over to her, the sat down in front of her.
The girl looked up at Cas and that's when he noticed the ears on her head. His own ears stood up when he saw that she was also a hybrid. "What's wrong?" Cas asked as softly as he could.
"I...I lost my mommy," she sobbed out.
Cas gently patted her head and lowered his. "It'll be ok," he told her, gently touching her ears. Wolf, he thought as he lowered his hand.
"C-Can I touch your ears?" She asked with a sniffle.
He gave her a small smile and nodded. She lifted her hand and gently touched Cas' ears, marveling at how soft they were. Her own were never this soft!
Cas sighed softly at the feeling. Whenever someone touched his ears, he'd always think about his sister, Anna. She'd always rub his ears whenever he needed to be calmed of comforted. She'd always hum to him whenever she did.
"Emily!"
Cas and the little girl looked up, seeing an older woman walking towards them. The little girl, Emily, let go of Cas' ears and jumped up, running over to her. "Mommy!" Her mom picked her up and held her close.
Cas smiled softly and stood up. He was going to walk away, but the woman quickly came up to him and hugged him. "Thank you so much for finding her! I know know one else would have helped her, considering what she is," the woman said with a smile, letting Cas go.
Cas smiled. "It was no problem. Hybrids have to stick together."
The lady smiled and nodded in agreement. They went their separate ways after another thank you and a hug from Emily. Cas started on his journey to find Sam again, with his yarn in hand and eventually found him where the alcohol was.
Sam turned and looked at Cas. "There you are. I was getting worried. Are you alright?"
Cas nodded and was about to tell him about the girl, but decided not to.
"Let's see the toy you got," Sam said softly, looking down at the yarn in Cas' hands. "Yarn?" He asked with a soft chuckle, making Cas blush. "Well okay then. Let's get out of here if that's all you wanted?"
Cas nodded again, looking down at his ball of yarn and falling even more in love with it. Sam was saying stuff, but he didn't really listen. He nodded whenever he felt he needed to nod and followed after Sam when he started walking.
They got to the register and Cas reluctantly put down his yarn for it to be paid for. The cashier was nice enough to give it back to him instead of bagging it and he smiled nicely at her. They were out of the store in no time and were headed home, barely talking.
"So, someone's coming over tonight," Sam started softly. "She's my girlfriend, Penelope and I want you to meet her."
Cas' eyes widened a little in fear. He wasn't good with meeting new people, obviously.
"Don't worry. You can meet her and say hello, then you can go back to your room. She's nice, I promise," Sam reassured him, turning into the driveway.
"O-Okay..." Cas gulped and looked down.
"Hey..." Sam gently put his hand on Cas' shoulder. "Everything will be alright." He gently rubbed Cas' ears. "Now, let's go inside." He dropped his hand and smiled at Cas.
Together, they two went inside with the bags, Cas suddenly a little calmer now then he had been when Sam first told him. I hope she's as nice as he says...
