Alec's POV:
*flashbacks in italics
It's the middle of junior year, and I'm pretty much sick and tired of everyone's crap.
I've suffered from a strong case of senior-itis since the beginning of freshman year, but hey, only a year and a half to go.
I've been through many interesting experiences in high school, but I can't say any of it was dreadful. In contrast to many other schools in the area, mine's was diverse. It didn't matter who you were, whether it was gender, sexuality, likes, dislikes. You were still a living, breathing human being. And that's what mattered.
Then why was it so hard to say the two words that have been nagging at me for years? Even my parents had no clue, but I had a feeling that my little sister Isabelle, who was in her freshman year, was suspicious. She has always been intelligent for her age, being able to understand and explain some things better than I ever could.
Sometimes I would look in the mirror, and simply whisper to myself, "I'm gay" or "I like guys" to see which would produce a less shocked reaction..But it was all the same thing. I wasn't sure about my mom, but I knew my father was very much against this sort of thing. I was terrified.
Finding out about who I was and who I liked all started because of one guy. He is just...entrancing. I've known this boy since middle school, starting in 7th grade, when we took the same history class together and were seat partners. It may have only started off as a simple middle school bond, but little did I know that Magnus Bane was going to be the end of me. During that year, we became close. And he may never admit it, but I know for a fact that what we had wasn't just friendly. Sure, we were real young, but there was no denying it.

-"Sit down everyone, I'm going to take roll real quick."
Alec obeyed the lady with long brown hair that was pinned up. She had vivid green eyes, and wore a long sleeve dark blue shirt with buttons, along with a dark blue pencil skirt. Her shoes were black and shiny, which Alec had taken a sudden interest in staring at since he couldn't make himself make eye contact with anyone.
Alec was always very shy growing up. He would be much too afraid to speak his mind, and was far too timid to ask what was going on in others.
"Alexander Gideon Lightwood?"
Alec's head shot straight up, looking up at the expectant middle-aged woman. "Here," he said, raising his hand slightly for extra effect. She nodded and looked down, making a small check mark on her clipboard.
Alec was about to put his head back down, but he accidentally made eye contact with another individual across the room. It was a boy, with extremely unique colored eyes. Alec couldn't quite make out all the colors from across, but he could've sworn he saw specks of yellow. The boy had thin, slanted eyes that went up slightly at the ends. Like...a cat's. His hair was spiked up, looking male-model perfect, which was a lot to say for someone only in 7th grade. What surprised Alec the most, however, was that the boy had makeup on.
Alec had never really seen a boy wear makeup before, at least not in person, so it really was intriguing. The other boy wore nothing heavy, but the eyeliner was quite conspicuous. Alec unconsciously decided that he liked it.
He only realized how long he'd been staring when the other boy tilted his head slightly upwards and smirked, which made Alec go completely red and look away.
The class period went by extremely slow, and all Alec could think was "I want his name."
He didn't understand why he wanted to know the other boy so badly only after looking at his face, but he didn't really care. He didn't think much of it, though of course, it would be a heavy topic to him later.
His wish was granted right after class, however. It was the moment when the boy walked up to him after class.
"Uhm..Hi, what's your name? I'm Magnus Bane."
"Oh uh...I'm...I'm Alec Lightwood."
