Kailani's P.O.V
I stare into the mirror at my bare face and my frizzy hair. I had already put my clothes on, but I had my hair and makeup left to do. Touching my hair I let out a loud and heavy sigh. You have to apply effort, but it'll be worth it Kailani. After a few episodes of struggling and small sweats, I managed to scrounge my hair up into a neat top bun. On the sides of my head there were two short curls that complimented my nicely sleeked edges. Not bad.
I unzipped my makeup bag and took out the things that I'd have to use. I found everything except for one, my eyeliner. Oh hell no. I looked in my drawers, in my jacket pockets, in my SHOES. I couldn't find it. Just then I remembered that it had rolled under my bed after setting it on my drawer.
"Just great," I mutter to myself as I get unto my stomach on the floor patting under my bed to find it. Just then I heard some footsteps and a knock at my door. The knob twisted and it opened.
Seriously, what's the point of knocking?
"Kailani?" I heard my mom say curiously.
I turn myself around and sat up leaning against my bed. My mom is leaning against the door frame with her arms folded while she looks at my makeup all over my dresser.
"Going somewhere?" She turned her gaze back unto me.
Oh crap! I never told my mom that I had a lunch date. Actually, now that I think about it, did we ever call it a date? Whatever it was called, my mom wasn't aware of it and that could lessen my chances of going.
"Uh, yeah Mama. I forgot to tell you, I got invited out to lunch."
"Oh, that's nice! With Mia? Or are you getting out there and making new friends?"
"Yeah, I guess you could put it like that." I said with a wry smile. "His name is Jayce. It's nothing too serious, just a regular lunch."
For a while, my mom didn't say anything, and it started to worry me a little bit.
"Oh. So this is a boy?"
"Yes Mama. I can't go, can I?' I said with a sigh. "Well, I can't say I'm surprised. I never interact with anyone of the opposite sex. I'm either gonna become a lesbian or live by myself with a bunch of cats. I mean being a lesbian won't kill me, but living with a bunch of cats? I'd rather not. Mama you never-"
"I never said you couldn't go, Kai." she said with a laugh. "I guess I just had to come to grips with the fact that my little girl is growing up."
Shocked for a while, I stared at the ceiling and said nothing. I looked at my mom and finally realized she wasn't kidding.
"...Oh? Wait, Mama you're serious? I can actually go?"
"Yes, child. You-"
Before she finished her sentence, I had already jumped up to hug her.
"Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!" I hugged her even tighter.
"Baby, my iki ka pua," she softly said. (iki ka pua means little flower)
"Yes Mama?" I smile widely to myself while still hugging her.
